Breech baby at 38 weeks.

Hi all

I attended the midwife for my 38 week appointment on Thursday and was told baby is breech. At my 36 week appointment a student midwife who examined my bump said the same but it was dismissed by the senior midwife.

I have had a lot of pressure and a 'lump' at the top of my bump for 6-8 weeks. I was sent for a scan yesterday who confirmed baby is breech and the 'lump' is baby's head. I believe they said baby was in extended breech which means their legs are up around their head so bum first if coming out.

At my midwife appointment the midwife although lovely was rushed as she had people to see after and after trying to get through to book my scan she was unable to and said she'd ring me the next day to discuss. Still haven't heard from her.

The hospital rang me to arrange my scan and afterwards they said they were trying to book me in for a ECV but due to an off sick consultant they had limited spaces and would likely have to send me to a different hospital but they couldn't confirm this either yet. I have to wait until Monday for them to confirm if they have space. They then advised me if no one is available to do ECV I will be offered a c section. All of this was told to me in a busy scan waiting room so I didn't process or consider what other questions I needed to ask.

So I'm looking for advice '. Has anyone been told of a breech baby at this stage and had it successfully turned? The leaflet I have been given says chances are lower at 38 weeks. However as it is my 2nd baby this improves chances.

Also has anyone been told they cannot have an ECV due to limited staff? I'm so surprised at this as I thought they'd want to avoid the option of a c section.

Has anyone any tips on what I can do to encourage baby to move?

The scan confirmed baby isn't engaged but I have been told id I go into labour before my ECV I'm to contact the hospital immediately and not wait for contractions to become regular/close together. Likely end up a x section.

I just feel so bewildered as no one has really sat down and spoken to me about my options. I've rung the community midwife to chase yesterday and admit I had a little cry down the answerphone but no one has called me back.

Sorry this is long! Grateful for any advice.

I had a late diagnosis of breech.
I had an ecv but it didn't work so ended up with quick planned c section.

That was almost 12 years ago.
It was all a bit rushed but DC was born on his due date.

The care was practical and all of those involved were as sympathetic as they had time to be.

I do remember being left in a room with my own thoughts for a while.

Wasn't the best experience but DC was and is well to this day.

A C-section is fine. Just take it easy.

Good luck.
