Just checked my HB result and found out it is 11.1. I know this isn't too low but it was taken two weeks ago and I am feeling really tired.
Am 30 weeks pregnant and know i'll be feeling tired anyway. What is normal for Hb in Pregnancy

That is a little low. Are you taking iron tablets?

typhoonsmum · 21/05/2007 17:37

No, the midwives haven't mentioned it. I checked the result in work. They haven't contacted me.

I can't remember what is a normal hb during pregnancy, but after given birth, my hb was 11 and I was given iron tablets. 11 might be the cut off point.

Speak to your gp or midwife. If they do advise iron tablets, then remember that vitamin C helps the absorption of iron (orange juice and kiwis are good sources) and milk hinders the absorption.

what can i say to them tho. I shouldn't have checked my level. not due to see mw for another 2 weeks.

tell them you are feeling very tired, and would like to know your hb result please.

I thought that 10 was the cut off point, but obviously you'd better check with the professionals.
It is often advised to get spatone or fluoradix in preference to the iron pills as they are meant to be absorbed better by the body.

it is a little low.

mine usually comes in at around 10 - even when not pregnant, so take spatone with ooodles of OJ.

Lowest point was an HB level of 6.... docs were suprised I wasnt hospitalised and given a transfusion, but the spatone managed to bring it up to a "safe" level.

Had a Hb of 7.1 after my first miscarriage. Was transfused then. Hb of 6 isn't compatible with walking about is it?

11 is just about normal I think but on the low end of normal if you see what I mean. But if that was 2 weeks ago it might have dropped a bit lower. Ask for a repeat test maybe?

Typhoon - tell me about it! Docs really were shocked, and had me on complete bed rest for 3 weeks. Still somehow managed to get pregnant later that month though

Ive never felt as awful as I felt then, but maybe it was because my HB is always so low anyway
