I had my 12 week NT scan today and she couldnt tell me my results said it would be sent to my midwife and reviewed with the blood tests. That must be a bad sign is it? Im completely freaking out and my midwife appointment isnt until the 19th

You mean the NT measurement? Is it not on your scan report?

SoyDora · 08/06/2018 11:28

The sonographer won’t know the ‘result’, that is only determined in conjunction with the blood test results. All she will have done is measure the nuchal fold. So that will be what she means by being unable to tell you the result. I think my results usually came through the post about 2 weeks after the scan.

TinyTerror1 · 08/06/2018 11:28

The results always come later as they use an algorithm and the blood test results form part of that. If it is bad you will hear before your midwie appointment, believe me. And if you had a high NT you would almost certainly have been told immediately - I was, the midwife basically freaked out in front of me (my baby is fine).

Sounds normal. They can't compile an actual risk for you without the blood results. It's a combined screening test.

Where I live I got results in the post beforemy next appointment with the midwife but may vary in different areas.

I think it more likely that if there was something grossly wrong they would have told you straight away.

Shrimpi · 08/06/2018 11:29

Congratulations on your baby!

Trooperslane2 · 08/06/2018 11:30

Another one saying if they were worried re the NT measurement, you'd know about it straight away.

Congrats re your pregnancy and I hope you can manage not to worry x

lifechangesforever · 08/06/2018 11:31

That's normal - you get a letter if there is a low risk or someone will be in touch via phone if it's something that needs to be discussed further.

They couldn't even measure NT at my scan because of how baby was laid so I had to wait until 16 weeks for a quadruple blood test instead.

Wellthisunexpected · 08/06/2018 11:36

You should have had a scan report in your notes - A4 paper with surprisingly little on it, mainly in acronyms/ jargon. It'll be on there.

FASH84 · 08/06/2018 11:38

I had mine yesterday doctor explained it's a combined test but the fluid behind the neck was thin and no sign of thickening so he had no concerns. Midwife who took the blood days they have no concerns at this stage but don't consider it an outcome until both parts of the test are complete. She then offered me the option to have the blood test, I said yes, she then have three options to test just for downs , just for Edward's or to test for both, I said both. I'm sure if they had any concerns they would've said.

Thanks everyone. She didnt tell me the measurement or if it looked fine or not which is whats worrying me! It took 2 appointments and in the end an internal to get the picture as baby wouldn't turn the way she needed!

Don't worry. Sounds completely normal. Took me 45 mins to get my measurement. If they were able to get a good measurement and then took bloods you'll get your results in 10-14 days. This is completely normal. Please don't worry!!!

Mhcb · 08/06/2018 15:06

I had my scan today and measuring 12+5 but baby wouldn't stop moving to get the measurement so I to go for bloods on the 19th instead

Grumpos · 08/06/2018 15:42

Look at your scan notes - they are green papers in my area - there will be a measurement on there somewhere. I was exactly the same, I didn’t even see the notes until later that night and I was fuming they hadn’t given us the NT measurement.

The combined results won’t be sent for a few days but honestly if they considered a potential issue arising from the NT alone they would have told you there and then.

PotteringAlong · 08/06/2018 15:45

Completely normal, no need to panic!

FASH84 · 08/06/2018 16:01

I had the same OP, three hours in the hospital two external scans, an internal, fill your bladder, empty your bladder, fill it again, doctor took over from the technician, some jumping on the spot , taking on my tummy, roll to the side, a half hour walk and a sugary snack to get baby in the right position! Everything was spot on , doctor just said I have a naughty baby 😂

FASH84 · 08/06/2018 16:05

If you have your notes anything under 3.5 is fine, anything between 2.5-3.5 they might want to do an extra test but is very unlikely to be a problem. Mine was 1.7

Shellash · 08/06/2018 21:03

I didnt get my notes just a couple pictures but thankyou everyone for relieving my panic.i will wajt to hear from my midwife
