Pregnant - 2nd time around

Have just found out I am pregnant - good news but I have been feeling movement a lot(which prompted me to do a test). Thing is, I had a period last month! Saw doctor today and he was really rude to me. Said I couldn't possibly be feeling the baby this soon - I said that I must be a lot further on than 4 weeks and he said no - unlikely to have a period while pregnant.

Does anyone else have experience of this? I have defo felt the baby moving on several occasions (having already got a 2 year old, I remember what this feels like) and I feel as though the doctor has just ridiculed me.

I am waiting to be appointed a midwife then for an appt for a dating scan, but if I am feeling movement then shouldn't I have a scan asap?

i am 10 wks tomorrow, and have been feeling movement, i told my dr i had had two very light monthlys but, and i also told this to the person i made the scan appt with but they still wouldnt let me have a scan until 12 weeks by my first missed period, i also felt movement before i done a test(or three) @ '5 weeks'
they think because they have a degree in whatever they have a degree in, that everybody elso is stupid!

You are absolutely right about everything you say. Some women have periods although they are pregnant. Your GP is utterly incompetent and you should look for another one. I would ring the EPU or MW and ask them about advice.

Oh and congratulations -- it's great that you feel already movements! I am eagerly awaiting them myself

Marie12 · 21/05/2007 16:23

Thanks for your support I was beginning to think I don't know my own body!

So how do you know how far gone you are if you have been having periods? I came off the pill in March and have had 2 periods since then - March and April. Doctor is gong by my last period in April so the midwife will look at it, think I am only 4 weeks and won't rush to book me in. In the meantime, I could be waiting 2 months for a scan and be much further on than 12 weeks by then!

Surgery won't give me phone number for midwife becasue I haven't been assigned to her yet!

This also annoys me because i was told you get a scan at 3months 4month and 5months! what if they got it wrong and im say 4months, i miss out on a scan! i was trying to convince the person that booked the scan that i was further on but it fell on deaf (or stupid) ears.
Dr said that that i may have thought i felt movement psychologically, but i felt that before i did a test, and before then didnt have a clue i was pregnant(until i finally skipped my period)
but what do i know? i dont have a degree, i must be stupid!

Marie12 · 21/05/2007 16:47

I felt movement b4 I did the test 2! I had no idea I was pregnant so it can't be psychological! What does a man know about it anyway!

mine was a woman, you'd expect her to be more sympathetic, but no, she ids probably just bitter cos she old nad all dried up, where as me im 20

Chirpygirl · 21/05/2007 16:50

I know of at least 3 people who had periods while pregnant (they were not amused)

You're doctor is talking shite. Wanker.

How would he have coped with me, I didn't have a period before this pregnancy as I was breastfeeding, so they had to send me for a dating scan as no-one had a clue how far gone I was!

If you are feeling movement then they won't rush you for a scan though, as 'non-scheduled' scans are for emergencies/bleeding. I only found out how far gone I was when I started bleeding 6 weeks in.

my sister didn't find out she was pregnant until she was 25 weeks, we thought she had IBS - as that was what she was told by her GP - distended abdomen, and it was the gassy stomach contents that was kicking her.

If i was you, Id just call your local hospital and get put through to the local EPAU and completely bypass your doctor.

The midwives are mostly lovely in EPAU's - very understanding. If you think you are further along than your doc is agreeing with, then disregard him and find out for yourself.

You may be very pleasantly surprised.

beansprout · 21/05/2007 21:45

at 25 weeks! That must have been a real shock for her.

Marie - please find a GP who know more about these things than your average MNer, and congratulations on your pregnancy!

EmilyandLola · 21/05/2007 22:06

i know, she's put the vomiting and dizziness down to a stomach bug that lasted a few weeks, at the time, i had my head permanently down the loo too - as our babies were due 2 weeks apart. The penny never dropped!

PregnantGrrrl · 22/05/2007 08:36

i've also had very strange movement feelings, from about 7-12wks (am 18wks now) The scan showed i def wasn't further along that i thought, but the feelings have stopped for a while now. They were quite strong too- DS is only 11mths, i don't know whether because i had him not long ago, my tummy muscles are being strange

whatever it was, nice to know i'm not the only one!

Marie12 · 22/05/2007 22:45

Sorry for my ignorance but what is an EPAU? Thanx for all your messages too by the way!
