Anyone want to join me in a massive self indulgent whinge about the first trimester?

This is my first baby, I'm 10 weeks. I knew I'd probably feel sick and tired in the first trimester. What I didn't know was:

You feel sick all the time
Everything smells disgusting
All food that isn't ready salted crisps is disgusting
Your womb aches
You taste dirty pennies all the time
You constantly burst into tears
Worry all day about the baby being ok
The tiredness is unreal
Acid reflux starts this early
Boobs burn for weeks
Massive bloated stomach that suddenly seems to be covered in luxuriant dark hair (?!)
Anyone touching me makes me want to punch them
Constantly burping and or/farting
Will you have awful diarrhoea or be constipated today? Who knows! It's a guessing game!
Hay fever season will destroy you more than ever before

And you just have a general feeling of disgustingness, a bit like having the flu. A bit sweaty, a bit sicky, achy and like you just want to go to sleep forever. Except you can't because you lie awake feeling shitty till 2.30am. And then wake up at 6.

Argghhhhh

Anyone else care to vent?

I feel you. I’d like to say it gets better but I’m 14 weeks and was sick last night and felt dizzy all day today.

They say you start to feel better around 12 weeks so hang in there and hopefully you will. I definitely feel a bit better now than I did at 10 weeks but still not great. My belly is constantly aching from all the stretching and now I get leg/hip cramp all the time. We both have the discomfort of living with W bunk to come too!

I think pregnancy in general is just very uncomfortable 😂

Angharad07 · 08/06/2018 00:53

*of living with the bump

Liverbird77 · 08/06/2018 04:49

My stomach itches. I am either vomiting or feeling like I am going to. Itchy nipples! Spend most of my time asleep when not in work. Fun times!

EnglishIrishRose · 08/06/2018 10:24

Haha, I'll join in! OP, snap, I'm 10w today and cannot wait for this mythical end to naisea which will supposedly happen in the next few weeks...

Also: bloated since my tww, so much so that I'm already in maternity jeans. Horrible gas, some heartburn and weird aches and pains.

I am also living off crisps and I'm pretty sure baby will come out smelling of salt and vinegar Grin

I was not expecting the extreme all day fatigue and having aversions to all my favourite foods. I can't really stomach any veg except potatoes. That's the hardest part for me as I love cooking and I now rarely manage it.

Pregnancy is not fun and I often wonder why I got myself into this situation. Can't wait to see the scan and feel like it's all actually going somewhere.

I'm 10 weeks with my first too and if someone had told me that I would feel this rubbish I might have reconsidered getting pregnant!! This is a very much wanted and so loved baby but I feel like I'm spaced out half the time. Also whoever called it morning sickness was having a laugh. I feel nauseous in the morning on the commute to work but I've been actually sick more around 5pm than any other time. Also what's with the ridiculous tiredness. I feel like I've done a two day weekend binge!! I crash about 3pm and my productivity at work plummets!!

I have my first scan on the 25th and I will be a day shy of 13 weeks. All that's keeping me going at this point is seeing my baby's heartbeat!

jellyfish2210 · 08/06/2018 11:20

@EnglishIrishRose yours might smell like salt and vinegar, mine is going to be cheese and onion!!

GenevaJoey · 08/06/2018 20:27

Yes I hate first trimester: sickness, nausea, and so so tired, not to mention anxiety , panic attacks and being horrendously emotional and bursting into tears at work..

It is also embarrassing. Sometimes (often) inam.so violently sick impossible myself. Vile! Thankfully only at home so far but I keep a spare pair of knickers in my handbag just in case.

The only light and hope is that the first trimester was by far the worst when I had my first baby. For me at least it did get better at about 15 weeks.

I am also 10 weeks now. It's been a long few weeks!!

robotcartrainhat · 08/06/2018 20:33

yes its horrendous.. im in the third now which is no walk in the park but in both my pregnancies id say the first was worst. Just felt like death and constantly sick or nauseous.
Worst thing is that you dont even look pregnant and people cant understand why you are like a zombie.
Even if they know you are pregnant, if they havent been themselves they often dont get it... once got the comment because I was too ill to do something 'but you are not even that pregnant??'
Also the exhaustion means you need to sit down on things like buses and trains etc and sometimes because you arent huge people give you weird looks...
Id actually rather stand on a train now im the third trimester and massive than when I was in the first and I felt like I was going to pass out all the time.

AussieMum28 · 08/06/2018 21:23

Yes please!!!! Don't even know how far I am along but I'm ready sick of retching, sick of vomiting, sick of sore boobs, everything smelling disgusting, my husband's breath even though he's just brushed his teeth, my exhaustion, the disgust for any sort of cuddling, my inability to have a hot dinner. Just want it to stop hahah

FireAndRain45 · 08/06/2018 21:36

Sorry to hear you're all feeling so shit! But at least we're not alone. YES to the already being in maternity jeans, the having to sit down all the time in public and the husband's breath. I have barely let my DP kiss me for the last 6 weeks let alone have sex. He's handling it very well even with me flinching every time he comes within 5 ft of me. And then later I cry about how I feel so unattractive and podgy and hairy. Plus I've not been able to handle the smell of hair dye so I'm sprouting multiple wiry grey hairs 😒

I swear to god if I tell anyone I'm pregnant and they go 'oh I just had one day of mild nausea but a ginger biscuit fixed it' or 'my first trimester was pretty easy, I had that pregnancy glow!' I will lose. my. mind

Omg what is it with crisps? And chips covered in salt. I usually eat very healthily but the thought of vegetables while typing this sentence is making me retch. I've woken up every day for a week feeling like I've been on a massive bender the night before.

My abdomen aches, my hair is greasy, and the other day I cried because there was a slow mo shot of newborn foal running round a field on the TV... Hmm

problembottom · 08/06/2018 22:25

Omg yes! I am 11 weeks and have reached peak fed upness today.
The worst is the sickness. I had it since week five and this week it’s ramped up in earnest. Head over the toilet last night.
Only thing that helps is to eat constantly. I can only really eat white foods like a cheese sandwich and I’ve gone off everything I used to eat - wholegrain loveliness with plenty of flavour.
I’ve feel like I’ve put loads of weight on and my boobs are huge (I’m used to being a small C) and I hate my new sweaty cleavage.
I’m tired all the sodding time.
Oh and I can’t stop peeing, it’s driving me nuts.
Poor DP isn’t allowed to come near me. Not a chance.

Hoping the end of the first trimester will see the sickness fade otherwise I’m going to seriously pack on some timber. And maybe it’ll get easier when I tell work post 12 week scan? Here’s hoping.

problembottom · 08/06/2018 22:28

Thank you for this thread I feel a bit better after that. DP says I’m glowing I can assure you I’m not. Hmm

Tori3535 · 08/06/2018 22:53

Agree with all of the above.
I'm 14 weeks now and SICK of being sick. This baby is very much wanted don't get wrong, but I never knew it was going to be this hard. My days now revolve around where has toilets so I can be sick / do I need to bring my trusty freezer bags (sick bags) along. I can't plan anything for fear of being green and crap company. My poor husband has mainly had to cook for himself for weeks and I love cooking!
I just sound like a complete winge but this pregnancy lark is tough!
The only thing saving my sanity is those arms and legs kicking during the scan and knowing it's all worth it.
But I'm not gonna lie, it may be an only child at this rate!

twirlywho · 09/06/2018 10:53

It is horrible I have never felt so ill in my entire life.

Ondansetron is helping now. Thank god.

I feel like a lot of the joy in my life is gone. Simply because I feel so so ill.

Hopefully it will shift. I felt nothing like this in my first pregnancy.
