Clothing - how much to buy for baby?

Now this might be a stupid question but it's my first child and I don't want to buy too much or too little.
How many pieces of clothing will I need for baby? So for example, how many newborn sleepsuits/babygrows, 0-3 months, 3-6 months should I get?
Thank you all in advance x

I'd say you will need 5 newborn babygrows and 5 vests for an 8lb baby.

(Up to one month were too on my 8 pound baby and newborn was too big on my 6lb8 baby, so I had to buy a few 'tiny Baby').

My DS2 is 8 weeks and is 13lb now and has just moved out of newborn sizes. 'Up to one month's fits nicely. I find 0-3 is still way to big on him

You can never have to many vests and baby grows buy a few size newborn and loads 0-3 x

My DS didn't fit in newborn or 1 month and went straight into 0-3 so don't buy too much of those sizes until you know how big your child is. Maybe just a few vests and sleepsuits in up to 1 month. Plenty of vest and sleepsuits in 0-3. I wouldn't bother with outfits as they are awkward and you will probably be doing several changes per day.

You will very likely get given loads. As pp said, 5 baby grows and 5 vests for 0-3 months and 3-6 months. If you and Dad are small then maybe get some smaller baby ones. I would suggest not unpacking and washing it all too as if you buy more than needed you could take it back and swap it for a different size.

My eldest went straight to 0-3 months, and my second was in newborn for a week. I sent dh out to pick up some newborn clothes while we were in hospital as the 0-3 month stuff looked ridiculous - we made 4 babygros last a week. Supermarkets are open all the time so don't panic about this, you can always get more.

This time, I'm reckoning on having about 10 babygros and vests in 0-3 month to start with. I can get more if we need, and we constantly have a load of washing on so clothes get turned around pretty quickly. Some babies spit up more in which case you might need more, some babies don't and a babygro can last a while.

Also, as it's your first, you will inevitably be bought lots of stuff!

I would say you need 10 of each!
My DS came out at 5lb3oz - he was estimated 7.dlb+
we went out and bought a couple tiny baby grows the day after he was born.
But generally he was quite a sicky baby, and I would change him 3/4 times a day, and there's no way you want to be washing and drying clothes every day. When are you due OP? people will buy you lots, I found people bought 0-3 generally.
