has anyone eaten ice cream from the van?

Im dying for some. Our local van plays this tempting melody everyday at 4.00, oh and lately there is always a van parked outside the park I take my toddler to. And suddenly, the only thing I want is one of those off the limits ice creams, - alternatives dont appeal.
Anyone ignoring the lysteria threat and just having the odd ice cream from a van?
I wasnt this reckless in my first pg...

what, you cant have ice cream now? I had it when i was pg in 2005 so this must be a new one.

ZoeC · 21/05/2007 14:53

I didn't with dd1 pg, but with dd2 pg I think I broke every rule going tbh.

It's a listeria risk LoveMyGirls btw(I think, don't quote me). I had heard it in 2002 when pg with dd1.

MrsBadger · 21/05/2007 14:54

I've had two, but I'm a microbiologist so only have myself to blame if something goes wrong.

The Walls Indulgence things are a good substitute (each portion sealed and frozen until squirted, no listeria risk) if you can fid a stockist - some newsagents do them.

go and get some angel delight and stick it in the fridge for an hour instead

Saturn74 · 21/05/2007 14:55

I was advised not to eat soft ice cream when pregnant in 1995, so I didn't risk it.
Had LOTS of pate, smoked salmon and ice cream once the baby arrived, though!
How many weeks pregnant are you, vannah?

HuwEdwards · 21/05/2007 14:55

oh yes, and alcohol, and peanuts, and eggs in fact stayed away from very little.

LoveMyGirls · 21/05/2007 14:56

Well it totally passed me by, I had an ice cream from the van quite a lot (late in the pg) never thought twice about it.

mother2b · 21/05/2007 14:56

Hmm, now i really really want ice cream *dribbles on keyboard

barbamama · 21/05/2007 14:57

Me too - I have had about 5 this pg as had never heard of it! Must be a pretty low risk unless it is a crap van where things aren't frozen properly. What about your own ice cream in the freezer? Please don't tell me I have to give up my Haagen Daaz

earlgrey · 21/05/2007 14:59

Hmmm, a topic close to my heart.

My sister's partner once got prosecuted for not having his "Mr Whippy" making machine clean enough. In Grimsby, not that it matters.

Any man that eats a Mr Whippy is a total turn-off, IMHO.

Especially if there's a Flake involved.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 21/05/2007 15:01

oops!
i was pregnant for summer 2005 and 2006.
needless to say i ate loads!

barbamama · 21/05/2007 15:04

Oh is it just the Mr Whippy type? I wouldn't touch those anyway -- the cornets always look manky. Are the packet ones from a van ok?

earlgrey · 21/05/2007 15:06

Man or van?

Wouldn't touch either. That was the end of our marriage ....

Eaglebird · 21/05/2007 16:13

I forgot you weren't supposed to eat soft ice cream, and I had a 99 a few weeks ago.
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm it was lovely.

mother2b · 21/05/2007 16:20

im going to be out hunting for one of these ice cream vans tonight, or maybe i should just get a massive tub and eat that to be on the safe side
