20 week ultrasound gender

I had my 20 week ultrasound yesterday and I said no when asked if I wanted to know the gender, shortly afterwards when talking about baby the Midwife said his/he when pointing out parts of the baby. Does this mean it's a boy or do some Midwife's just refer to baby as he ?

I didn't find out the gender and they just referred to the baby as "he" as default as they said it was nicer than calling the baby "it"

They often use pronouns as many parents get offended by the foetus being referred to as it. Just because the sonographer used he/his, it does not mean that is the sex.

We didn't find out the sex and the same happened to us at the scan, the lady was talking about "his" which made me leave thinking into it and that maybe we were having a boy and actually had a girl Smile so it's definitely just how they reference I believe!

I read that they use he to distinguish from the mother being she.

Yeah they use he as default. Even at my 12 week scan they said he and obviously they don't / can't tell you the sex then.

I'm a midwife and use he as default.

Thank you everyone ! Can't help but think it's a boy so I've booked a 4D scan to find out for sure Smile
