GTT

Last week I had GTT and found out that I am having gestational diabetics. Tomorrow I am going to hospital group appointment. I am just confused what to eat and exercise. I am very active staying on my feet most of the day. But its food that's making me worried.

Any advice please.
Thanks in advance.

Funnily enough there was a BBC 1 program just on - so you can watch it on iPlayer - called The Truth About Carbs. It will give you info about some of the carb swaps you can make.

The website diabetes.co.uk has a forum and there is a section for those with gestational diabetes so it is worth looking and posting on there for support.

@BlueBug45 I just watched that and now in major panic about the volume of carbs I've consumed in the past 6 months. I am a major carb junkie and eat mountains of beige every day Blush I'll be reviewing my diet!

@bluees it's definitely worth a watch of that programme.

6 weeks not months .....although maybe I should be worried about months as they said it's before conception too.

Bluebirdsky · 06/06/2018 21:27

Try not to worry too much @bluees when you see the team at the hospital tomorrow they will give you a lot of advice on diet and what to eat; if you are still feeling uncertain after this ask for an appointment with the dietician.

BlueBug45 · 06/06/2018 21:30

OP and @InDreamland stop worrying - least you discovered this information now rather than in 6 years time so you can modify your diet now.

I only discovered some of this info because a family member with type 2 complained of no help from her GP and due to my nutrient deficiencies saw a dietitian who pointed out my own diet was too beige, so I started doing more digging. Even so I've had weird food cravings which I've indulged in while pregnant. I've gone from processed stuff to now wanting certain fruits and vegetables - don't leave a punnet of strawberries in front of me as I will inhale it.

Thanks all. I will watch that programme and tty not to panic ( which is hard)

@BlueBug45 enjoy the strawberries! I might join you. Now to amend my ocado order.
