Hi everyone, I'm new here but can't wait to have a chat with you all.
I'm Leanne and Matthew and I are expecting our first child ☺

Just as I'm getting ready for bed and putting on my moisturiser ect (my skin has already changed dramatically by the way) i started to wonder about stretch marks and what people are using and when you should start using anything?

Apologies if this isn't in the right place but I'm on my tablet and the layout isn't the best!

Thank you, Leanne xxx

There's nothing you can really use to stop stretch marks but keeping well hydrated and eating lots of healthy food can help a bit. Moisturising is good for your skin in general but doesn't really impact on stretch marks as they are in a deeper layer of skin.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

It tends to be genetic apparently. Unfortunately my genes were very much my fathers as my mum is stretch mark free!
Bio oil is lovely but otherwise just moisturise as you would normally I guess. You may find you get some or none at all. I read the most amazing quote about 5 minutes ago about stretch marks though which made me smile ‘it’s just skin. Skin that stretched so it didn’t break’

Congrats on the pregnancy!

I've been using Bepanthen stretch mark cream since about 14wks (currently 32 weeks). I have no stretch marks as yet but they can happen at any time and I think it is dependent on genetics.
My mum used bio oil (35yrs ago)and didn't get any.

Hi everyone
Thank you for replying.
Kind of what I thought, I have them on my legs anyway from just growing up really but just wondered if there was a miracle in a tube out there lol
I will still use a more intense moisturiser and I drink loads of water currently.
Thank you, have a great day everyone
Leanne x

Don’t lose hope @slimpy88, I got a lot of stretch marks during puberty but none in either pregnancy.

I used bio oil and coconut oil but I don’t think what you use really matters.

Slimpy88 · 06/06/2018 13:25

Thank you @isambardo

I will be having a good nosey round Boots tomorrow, I just hate the smell of Palmers so just going to get something very rich

I'm 39 weeks with my second pregnancy and don't have a single stretchmark from either pregnancy.

My secret is.... complete and utter sheer lucky genetics I'm afraid.

Not one drop of moisturiser has been applied during either pregnancy. If you are going to get stretchmarks you will get them regardless of how many pounds you spend on creams and things.

Spend the money on something else instead.

@pastabest

You are a very lucky lady!

I guess your right though, my usual moisturiser probably helps just as much/or not as it were

I used bio oil twice a day for both of my pregnancies. First time I got away with very few stretch marks. Second time - huuugge bump, giant baby and a whole tonne of stretch marks sadly.

I saw an ad for something like this in my hospital waiting room. No idea if it works though - was too late for me to try, my belly already looked like it would camouflage nicely next to a tiger or zebra!

Ah thank you @Doublechocolatetiffin

I will check it out when I am at home

I have stretch marks all over thighs and bum from puberty, but I didn't get a single one in two full term pregnancies despite not rubbing myself with anything.

Moisturising is always nice for your skin, but you'll get 'em or you won't. It's out of your hands, so try and relax.

mamahanji · 06/06/2018 20:06

It's genetics. My mum got awful stretch marks in her pregnancies. I got hem as a teenager and I bought I made it out of pregnancy without them until 3 days before I gave birth I woke up with purple stripey belly!

I couldn't put bio oil or anything on them as they stung like mad.

firstimer91 · 06/06/2018 21:04

Castor oil.
