Feeling breathless at 27 weeks

A few mornings last week I felt a bit breathless but it passed after an hour or so. Today it came on suddenly in the afternoon and has lingered on and off all evening.

I know it’s pretty common to feel breathless a bit later on but I thought it was a bit early. I’ve had low blood pressure at my last few appointments, not sure if this can have an effect. Also baby is lying really low so it’s not him pressing on my lungs.

Should I be worried or is this another one of those pregnancy things that will come and go?

It might be your iron levels dropping it's really common in the 2nd trimester.

Do you have a midwife appointment at 28 weeks? They should take some bloods then which would tell you if it was iron.

Ive been breathless for the last 2-3 weeks. I'm 27 weeks now. My midwife wouldn't do a full blood test as I'd been tested in March following a heavy bleed and my iron levels were high then. Could it be the start of a cold?

I think they usually do routine bloods again at 28 weeks kirinm precisely because it is very common for iron levels to drop in the second tri. So like I've suggested to the OP it might be that yours have dropped since you were tested 2 months ago in March.

I hadn’t thought of iron levels. I have had anaemia in the past. I have a midwife appointment next week so I’ll make sure to bring it up then. Thanks both.

I'm definitely raising it again at my midwife appointment next week. I'm still breathless and starting to feel quite tired and generally run down despite nothing having changed work or lifestyle wise.

I am suffering quite bad breathlessness and have been for probably 6 weeks or so (am now 34 weeks). For me it is down to where my baby is sitting, its horrible and sometimes I can get myself into a right state over it! They are predicting a decent size baby so not sure if maybe that's why perhaps?!
I spoke to consultant who isn't worried and thinks its just where everything is getting squished as blood/urine all fine.
Mention to your midwife though

It seems to be pretty common on it’s own but can also be linked to blood pressure issues and anaemia so worth getting checked out. It is a scary feeling though when it comes on out of the blue!
@Kirinm Are you due in September too? I think I’ve seen your username on the Sept group.

I'm due 3rd Sept and I'm feeling short of breath too this week not sure if its because baby feels very high up or I'm just unfit!! :(
