Confused about certain food you can't eat when pregnant

Can anyone help me?

I've eaten cooked breaded prawns this weekend and pepperoni slices on pizza.. then I was told I shouldn't have eaten the prawns.

I've also read on certain websites that chorizo shouldn't be eaten?

Does anyone here know?

Go on the NHS website and there’s a list there.

If the prawns were cooked then it’s fine. Chorizo is fine if it’s cooked.

Who told you that you shouldn't have eaten the prawns?

They were wrong.

You can also eat any cooked deli meats like chorizo and pepperoni. The advice around things like that is to do with listeria and toxoplasmosis from raw meats but if they are cooked on a pizza it is fine, if they are eaten cold then they are also most likely fine but you can take extra precautions by freezing them for a few days first to kill off the bugs.

As long as you take normal food preparation precautions and follow the NHS advice you should be fine.

Both are fine since they were cooked.

Follow the nhs website only.

I personally was very relaxed about food though.

Just make sure everything us cooked properly and you'll be fine.

With all foods your baby is most likely going to be absolutely fine so don't worry. I (following NHS advice ) avoided pate, rare or uncooked meat, and uncooked soft cheeses - that was pretty much it!

basically you can eat anything thats cooked.

Cheeses, pepperoni, prawns, are all fine when cooked, as the only reason they tell you steer clear is because when these things are eaten part-cooked (smoked like pepperoni) or raw, they can still contain some stuff that can make you get food poisoning, which is obvs more dangerous during pregnancy. The cooking process kills this bacteria which could make you ill, so it is fine :) xx

As people have already said.

Cooked is fine - pate, sushi and a few cheeses are maybe iffy if not prepared right.

(Sushi made right is probably fine but I'm not a fish eater so no idea about how to cook or prepare Nemo)

NHS list is a good base to start with.

It’s all guidelines. They vary in every country. You can choose to eat whatever you want! You can also choose not to eat some things that have a very minuscule risk associated. Expecting better is a good book to read. If you want to just follow the ‘rules’ look at NHS website. But whatever you do don’t worry about it.
