A few friends have commented to me that i look like I have lost weight, although my bump is growing well
I havent put on any weight (im 21weeks) but figure that baby is getting most of food. Im not eating for 2, but eating normally, and not sick.
I have had a few hospital admits for continuing fast heart rate and am on asprin daily for possible blood clots. Im not overly worried, but wondered if anyone had insight.
Thanks
L

my sister in law kust lost 8 kg in the first 9 weeks on pregnancy - that is kilos, not pounds! I think i put on that much. just depends, person to person. i was constantly starving and gave birth to a big, healthy (chubby!) boy. i've had 'smaller' (ie. slimmer) friends who've had much smaller babies than mine. it's just the way you're made and they're made...

MerryMarigold · 20/05/2007 21:45

but definitely make sure you're drinking enough water (2litres per day) and eating the right sort of stuff 'cos you want to make sure the baby is getting what it needs. the rest will go to you.

I drink a lot of water, and eat well, although my friend thought me eating a footlong subway was coz I was preggy ;)
LOL she was shocked when I told her i would have eaten it if i wasnt preggy LOL

I cook at home, normally meat and veggies and lunch at work is jacket potato's or soup.

I was hospitalised during the first 3 months of pregnancy for a condition totally unrelated to being pregant.

When I came out of hospital I weighed less at 4 months pregnant than I did before.

My MW reassured me that the baby will take everything it needs from you and in these circumstances it is just you who suffers, not the baby. I didn't put on much weight for the rest of my time but had a very healthy 8 pounder.

I lost a stone in the first 12 weeks (due to constant nausea) and (exluding bump) only really put it back on in the last few weeks - I had high bp from 35 weeks and totally used it as an excuse to sit on my arse for 6 weeks eating SO much crap.

How I regret that now........

mumto3girls · 20/05/2007 21:51

When I went in to give birth to my 9lb 8oz dd3 I weighed less than before iwas pg...

lisad123 · 20/05/2007 21:54

not sure if this has any impact but had pre eclampcia in last pregnancy and DD weighted 5lb.

i lost weight, about a stone i think by the time the baby was out. i just wasn't very hungry when i was pregnant, felt pretty nauseous in the beginning and then ate well but didn't ever put on weight. still, bfing trauma after the birth meant that i put it all back again using cake.

IntergalacticWalrus · 20/05/2007 22:00

I weighed a stone less after having DS2 thatn when I got pg. That was dfowbn to eating sensibly and drinking lots of council pop. He was 7lbs 8oz at birth

I put on 7lbs during my pregnacy with DS1. He was 8lbs 2oz at birth.

I don;t tend to put on a lot of weight in preganacy. It's afterwards that's my probalem (I put on nearly 4 stone after having DS1, due to being bored at home)

I was almost 6 stone overweight though when I got pg with DS2 so twas a very good thing!

I'd say don;t worry about it too much, just eat normally, and keep as active as you can.

Wotzsaname · 20/05/2007 22:03

With dd1, I was 12 stone, lost 1 stone, went back to 12 stone at about 34 weeks and put on and additional 6lb by end of pregancy. DD1 was 2 weeks early.

maximummummy · 20/05/2007 22:08

I lost a fair bit of weight in the first 3-4 months of pregnancy due to sickness. I put it on again after this though, and a bit more.

flightattendant · 21/05/2007 08:39

It sounds fairly normal, I've heard this pattern before quite a few times, so try not to worry! As long as you are seeing the Dr/MW and Ok for dates, it'll take care of itself.
In my first pregnancy, I did lose half a stone at the beginning as I felt very sick. But I put on a total of about a stone and a half...not a huge amount, but enough. (Baby was 6lb 9oz.) I did look really thin by the end and the bump was pretty small!!
This time I lost weight again because of feeling sick, probably about a stone, but that went back on once I had drugs to control the nausea. I've no idea what I weigh now but I'd already gone up by 1 1/2st. about halfway through!
I'm sure you will be fine - eat when you're hungry, the rest will take care of itself.

tissy · 21/05/2007 08:48

me- I was lighter just before dd was delivered than I was when she was conceived. This was, I'm sure due to the five months of "morning" sickness followed by four months of reflux. I lived on very small quantities of mashed potato and ice cream, washed down with apple and mango juice.

Dd came out perfectly healthy.

schneebly · 21/05/2007 08:52

I stayed the same weight throughout both of my pregnancies and came out the other side over 2 stone lighter and with babies who weighed 8lb 1oz each. I am/was very overweight to begin with though. I didnt diet during my pregnancies but craved healthy food.

shonaspurtle · 21/05/2007 08:59

I put on just under a stone when pregnant but a lot of people said that I looked like I had lost weight everywhere but my bump (which was quite small).

I put it down to cutting the alcohol out and not really feeling the need to eat a lot when pg. I just ate normally and probably a bit more healthily. I think it affects people in different ways - a lot of people need to snack regularly to stop themselves feeling sick/lightheaded and I was very lucky in that I only had mild morning sickness.

Ds was 7lbs 12oz so he was obviously getting what he needed! I reckon you should do what you're body's telling you to do. If you don't feel the need to eat more then you don't need extra calories.

cathcart · 21/05/2007 09:06

yes i lost a stone in the first 4 months, mainly through sickness i think. i weighed 11.3stone before pg, at 16wks i was 10.5, the day before i had dd i was 12.3 and now i am 10.5 again and have been since dd was about 3 weeks old. dd was a very healthy 7lb12oz. as long as you are drinking ok and eating a healthy diet then i'm sure you have nothing to worry about.

mad4girls · 21/05/2007 14:36

yes i lost 2 stone when pregnant with number 2 due to extreme sickenss and hospitilised for a while, which was horrible at the time but fter dd2 was born i looked and felt great, everyone commented on how slim i was looking etc, i was 2 sizes smaller after birth, whichw as a bit of a bonus

oh and she as a chubby 8lb er too
