Doctor or midwife about headaches?

Im 19 weeks pregnant and have had a headache since Saturday afternoon. I did go for a long walk in the sun and I got very hot which is why I suspect the headache started. I was also sick Saturday evening which always happens when I get a bad headache. I’ve taken some paracetamol over the course of the weekend and the headache goes but comes back faintly.

Should I contact my doctor, or my midwife? I want to make sure all is ok, as I know pre eclampsia symptoms can start around this time.

TIA

If you are concerned then contact one of them. Have you drunk enough fluids since? It sounds like you got dehydrated and possibly even had heat stroke. Fluids needed to be upped in pregnancy as your body is working so much harder and running at a higher temperature than normal. It's always best to get checked out when pregnant as worrying is also bad. Hope all is well soon. And congratulations.

I think either would be fine but as @TeacupTattoo has said you sound dehydrated and possibly heat stroke. The fact that paracetamol helps, even if only temporarily, is a good sign. I would contact either the doctor or midwife for advice and significantly increase your fluid intake in the meantime. Also try a cold flannel on the back of your neck. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Your midwife can check your blood pressure and dip your urine to check you don’t have pre-eclampsia by won’t be able to advise much more than ‘drink lots of water and take paracetamol’. Your GP would be offer greater advice about headaches and their causes, and is also perfectly capable of ruling our pre-eclampsia so if you can get an appointment with them, it’s probably more productive.
