Hi had horrific sickness with first child and lost so much weight in 1st 17 weeks. Second time around I got prescribed cyclizine and I recall it made me sleep but I think eventually I got used to it, whole thing is a bit hazy now as I lost my mum during the pregnancy. Anyway here I Ann again - I got prescribed it yesterday and took one this morning at 8:30am and have basically been unconscious on the sofa until now 5:54pm. How long before this side effect wears off and is it woth just having them at night? I am in Work next week and cant afford to be asleep / school and Nursery runs I wouldn’t be safe to drive.

It defiantly did this to me for a few days, possibly a week but with decreasing impact. After that no impact at all on drowsiness. So keep at it and get temporary help if you need it.

Loandbeholdagain · 02/06/2018 17:58

Definitely not defiantly!

boymum9 · 02/06/2018 18:06

Like pp said I found the drowsiness got better maybe a week or so in, although I was still tired! I had to take it in the morning otherwise I just couldn't get out of bed without being sick all morning! But at night may work! I'm not sure how long it stays in your system!

Yes I seem to recall it slowly got better last time - the doctor told me when I mentioned it made me practically pass out last time that ‘this is very rare’ but a bit of googling i honestly don’t think it is.

I passed out basically the first two times. Friend had similar reaction. So don’t think it’s rare, but shouldn’t last long.

As the others have said, I had it prescribed last time and the drowsiness faded. I'm currently on day 2 of them again for this pregnancy and it's much the same, I just want to sleep. Try to keep with them and the affects should wear off soon

Lennon80 · 02/06/2018 18:20

Soontobemumof4 - how many are you taking - I only took half a bloody tablet as I was scared of passing out. They must be so strong! Has today been the same? It’s gone from one sort of incapacitated to another. Fed up already.

I'm on 1 tablet 3 times a day, it's helping most of the symptoms so the tiredness I can kinda put up with. It would help of my other children would sleep at night but can't win them all.

Today is much the same as yesterday, I'm hoping they've setgkes a bit more by Monday as I'm not looking forward to the school runs

I took it for about a week or so and it had no effect on my nausea or vomiting - I had hyperemesis and was vomiting around 15/20 times a day when i got put on it - and it also knocked me out as you describe. Can't say whether it would have got better or not because I got switched to different medication after about a week as it wasn't helping me anyway.

Lennon80 · 03/06/2018 16:24

What did you switch too - I feel desperate now I can’t cope with the sickness or just being asleep 😢

Prochloperazine - which also didn't help, but at least didn't knock me out - and then eventually ondansetron which did help with the frequency of my vomiting to a certain point, although not with the nausea, but it did give me some dizziness and give me constipation. There are a few options and if it's really impacting your life it's worth speaking to GP about trying something different.
