4D SCANS - Are they worth it?!

I have just found a local clinic that will do 4D scan, DVD and sexing of the baby for £100

They also do 2D sexing scans for £60

Im in two minds what to do, I want to find out the sex, and local hospital wont tell me, but on the other hand I liked the suprise with the girls, and never had the "urge" to find out that I do now.

Are 4D scans really as "amazing" as they are made out to be, and really worth the £100 for a 25 min appointment?!

I would not pay for it TBH. Someone is making a killing out of poor parents. I personally think babies are being over exposed to ultrasound waves and we truly do not know it's overall effect.

I had one done, it was fab! well worth the money imo, and it was amazing!

Email me on [email protected] and i can email you some pics if you like.

mine was worth it it cost £80 and it was money well spent my older children loved it and I was fascinated by what you can see and, I got to see the sex of my baby very clearly, the photos are beautiful

I had one done - only had 2 poor NHS scans - and it was worth EVERY penny - and I didn't want to know the sex so she kept away from there! Absolutely amazing experience.

i had one done - cost £200 - worth every single penny. Got 6 pics and a dvd of the whole appointment - about 50 minutes - got to see my little boy yawning and sucking his thumb and such like - it'll be lovely to show him (and his girlfriends) when he is older!!

I love mine too - got a disk with loads of pictures and video footage - it's great, I still look back at it now 15mths on

We had three girls and wanted DD3 to move into a bed around the 20wk scan of DD4, so we wanted to know if we needed two single beds (if DD4 turned out to be a boy) or another set of bunk beds, and also to know if we needed to use the spare room as a boys room. My mam and DDs came with us in a spacious room and watched on a huge screen so it was a real bonding experience.
We didn't actually pay for 4D but the sonographer was teaching a MW so I got to see for free. It was amazing! However DD4's placenta was in the way! It wasn't at the front it was just that DD4 was cuddling into it. So I'm glad I didn't pay for 4D as I would have been disappointed, but as it was, it was amazing.

I loved mine at 13 weeks (part of nuchal test) - it was the first time I really realised there was a little person in there! Watching him move was amazing.

Worth it totally. Had one with dd and again with ds and would do it again..!!

Amazing to see a 3d/4d image of them and to see their features and to imagine how they will look once born..Go for it.

Hello

Sorry JARM for a slight highjack of your thread

I'm really interesting in getting a 4D scan, I just don't know where to start with choosing a clinic...

Can anyone recommend a nice friendly clinic in the South East of England?

Thanks!

charlie999 · 21/05/2007 13:02

I went to Baby4D in Canterbury - very good

JARM · 22/05/2007 08:58

Mine would be in deepest darkest suffolk!

All i did was a search on Yell.com under 4D SCANS and it brought up a list - i think i chose the clinic option, and hey presto there one was.

Still havent decided..... i keep flitting between do i want to know or dont i... im not paying out the money just for a non-sexing scan!

JARM - think of it this way. Your other DDs will be jealous that you didn't have a 4D scan of them! I raelly think you could do with using the money for something more important. No-one else in this thread seems at all bothered by unecessary exposure to ultrasound but it is an issue. I think it is a real sad how we readily violate a baby's private world!

shhhh · 22/05/2007 14:37

well we had 3d/4d scans with both of ours..and it never did them any harm . God I sound like my mother now..!!

I say its worth it..we wanted to have the sex confirmed for our own needs and we also wanted to see what our dd & ds looked liked..9 months is a long time to wait and in this day and age if its on offer and you want it then go for it..You aren't pregnant all the time and some oeple only experience it once so imo its a nice way to capture the pregnancy. The same way as people who have tummy casts done.

We used a company in leeds with dd BUT with ds we used baby premier in manchester..mention "bounty" and you get a 10% discount.
