BV in pregnancy

Just had a letter from the hospital with results from a swab to say I have got BV and need antibiotics. I'm 20 weeks pregnant and have had spotting on and off throughout the pregnancy so far. Could this be the cause? The hospital found no reason for the bleeding on examination. The swab was taken 2 weeks ago and I'm now worried about how long I could have had BV without treating it and worried about the baby. Anyone else had this?

Bv can cause preterm labour. Hard to know how long you've had it but the sooner treated the better.

It won't harm the baby at all for now as the baby is well sealed inside your uterus - that's what the 'plug' in your cervix is for. But you do need to get it treated. Consider taking some good probiotics while you are on the antibiotics.

Thank you I've just been to pick my anti biotics up and been given metronidazole assuming this is ok in pregnancy
