Has anyone got pregnant after giving birth but *before* their period returned?

I have one baby, breast feeding on demand. Baby is coming up to 8 months so on solid food too.

I would like another child but not for a few years. I'd also prefer not to use hormonal contraception.

Prior to becoming pregnant I was charting my temp, cm etc. But my period hasn't returned yet which I know is normal when still bf.

My question is : what are the chances of falling pregnant the first time you ovulate after pregnancy? Has it happened to many people? ( It happened to my mum!) Or do 99% of people ovulate, get a period, then are able to track fertile times?
Thanks

My sister had her 3rd child and her twins within 10months of each other. She got caught before she had a period and while breastfeeding. Breastfeeding doesn't guarantee you won't of ovulated already. X

Be ultra careful! It's a very fertile time! I wasn't having periods at all (was on progesterone only pill which hormonally mimics pregnancy) and got pregnant before I had a period!!

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 31/05/2018 13:58

Yes. DD1 must have been conceived when DS1 was 5 months old and I was ebfing, no periods.

GrumpyBagFace · 31/05/2018 14:06

My mum did Grin I'm a very welcome surprise!

MiniDoofa · 31/05/2018 14:09

Totally possible and not as unusual as you’d think. My two youngest are 12 months apart for this reason. Wink

TopBitchoftheWitches · 31/05/2018 14:10

Yes me !

Ds 2 and ds 3 have 9 months between them, although ds3 was 2 months prem.

I didn't find out about ds3 until I was 13 weeks pregnant.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 31/05/2018 14:12

Oh and I clearly didn't learn as after I had dd1 dd2 popped out nearly killed both of us 11 months later.

ComtesseDeLancret · 31/05/2018 14:17

Your fertility seems to skyrocket after giving birth.

I only had one period at 9wks PP after my daughter was born, there’s 12mths between her and my son. My son is now 4mths and I’m roughly 8wks pregnant again, despite using contraception. It happens.

You can't rely on breastfeeding now your lo is on solids and is probably going longer between some feeds. Condoms (male or female), diaphragm/ cap?

StylishMummy · 31/05/2018 14:26

I did. DD2 is 17 weeks, DD1 20 months no periods for over 2 yearsGrin

LoislovesStewie · 31/05/2018 14:27

Oh yes! I've met plenty of people who have children about 10-11 months apart. They all express surprise that it has happened, so it's clearly widely thought to be impossible. My mother had a sister 14 months younger and another 15 months older, if you don't want to conceive best use something!

TickledOnion · 31/05/2018 14:33

My mum got pregnant with my DB when I was 6 months old. She was still breastfeeding me and had a copper coil fitted.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 31/05/2018 14:34

Yes.

Me. Was breastfeeding and pregnant when baby was about 10 months old.

No wonder I was so tired Wink

newmumwithquestions · 31/05/2018 14:41

Yes. No 1 was fertility treatment, ebf and my periods hadn’t returned. Turns out we’re not infertile any more!

Shutupanddance1 · 31/05/2018 14:42

This is my worst fear - I don’t want another baby once this one arrives in a few weeks and don’t want to have any hormonal contraceptives. Hate condoms but needs must!

furandchandeliers · 31/05/2018 14:43

Yes me Smile my second and third child were born 10 months apart Shock

littlepooch · 31/05/2018 14:44

Yep! Currently 24 weeks with surprise number 3. I will have 12 months between my 2 youngest! :)

TheVanguardSix · 31/05/2018 14:46

Yes!

DC2 was just 7 months old at the time when I got pregnant again. We lost the little baby, sadly.

But it's very common. I think it's the reason so many women have 3 under 3!

Melamin · 31/05/2018 14:46

Pretty common. I met someone with 2 sets of twins 10 months apart.

Melamin · 31/05/2018 14:48

I also met someone who had multiple miscarriages before DC1, and again before DC2, and then DC3 10 months later.
