Bleeding after a scan

Hi all, this is my first post here but I need some advice as I’m going crazy. I am 9-10 weeks pregnant with a very much longed for baby. On Friday night I had a heavy red bleed with small clots, went to A&E who did nothing except book me for a scan on Tuesday (bank holiday weekend Angry). So I booked a private scan for Sunday and saw wriggling little bean with heartbeat and all. Then again on Tuesday at NHS scan. Tuesday night had another much lighter, pinkish bleed that I only saw when wiping. Could this be my body trying to stop this pregnancy? I’m terrified, can anyone give me any advice? I’m waiting for EPU to call me back about latest bleed but been waiting 6 hours!

I’ve bleed pretty much through my whole pregnancy (34+5 now) completely in explained for the most part.

Obviously can’t say it will or won’t be ok for you but you’ve seen a heartbeat so that’s a good sign. Hopefully the EPU will have you in again for another scan to check things over. They may examin you as well to check cervix is closed and any signs of irritation that could cause bleeding

I’m good friends with two doctors who told me that only 5% of bleeds in pregnancy actually indicate imminent loss. There are many other reasons: cysts, erosion, utis, pooled blood etc. If the scan showed healthy bean after bleeding then it’ll be coming from somewhere else, and the docs will work to find out what it is - if anything quantifiable.

Thanks PenguinChristmas. I just hate not knowing what’s happening. I’m type 1 diabetic as well so the stress is awful. Your reply is helpful and I really appreciate it.

@millypad that’s really reassuring, I wish my hospital were interested in finding out the problem. There was nothing visible around the sack/baby so it must be something cervical I think but they have made no move to investigate further. I have called back to remind them that I’m waiting almost 8 hours for a call back but they don’t seem to care. I’m wondering if I should just go down there? Any recommendations?

I had bleeds with both pregnancies so know how stressful it can be. Both pregnancies continued successfully. At this point there is nothing anyone can do and it's unlikely hospital will continue to scan you. As long as they know pregnancy is in the right place it's just a waiting game now.

Good luck

I bled heavily throughout my whole pregnancy and I'm sat here with my nearly 4 year old.

Focus on the fact you've seen a wriggling baby on the scan and head to a&e if the bleeding gets worse.

Good luck!

Unfortunately the cause of most bleeding in pregnancy is never found so if everything was ok on the scan there is a limited amount that can be done.
Once a heartbeat has been seen on a scan the chance of a miscarriage reduces quite a lot. I know it's hard but try to stay as calm as you can, it's a horrible waiting game that many of us on here have done and I wish there was another way to get the reassurance that you need but unfortunately there isn't. Try to throw yourself into focusing on the things that you can control like eating well and optimising blood sugars etc.

Thank you all so much for sharing your experiences. This can feel like an incredibly lonely experience and knowing others have gone through similar, and come out the other side, is really lovely. If anyone has a spare second, think happy babybthoughts for me! Halo Grin

Did you have an internal scan? That made my bleeding worse he turns ten this year

Potlots · 30/05/2018 20:53

@abbsisspartacus I did on Sunday but yesterday I just had an abdominal. Would have been way less worried if it had been internal.

My cervix was degrading which was most likely causing the bleeding I had chronic thrush too it was a rough pregnancy but worth it in the end
