20 weeks scan baby's legs crossed

Hi mums, can you please share your experience with me? I am so gutted as yesterday had my Anamika scan and gender couldn't be determined as baby decided to cross their legs and their position is that the bum is on the front. Sonographer tried hard but couldn't see the sex.

She just guessed it could be a girl but then pressed it's just a guess as she couldn't see any testicles.

Have any of you had this in your scans? What was the baby eventually?

Thanks for your replies in advance!!Smile

Yes, we had this. Sonographer said same thing - can't see anything so most likely to be a girl but don't know. She was a girl but don't use that as a reason to think yours will be - could be just coincidence with 50/50 chance.

I'd advise assuming you still don't know and continuing to think of baby as "it" and buying neutral things - I know in theory any sex can have anything but given society norms I'd still advise not dressing a baby boy in pink flowers!

Haha thanks yeah don't want to set my mind on one sex. But want to know the odds of having a boy with legs crossed. Hiding his pee pee.Hmm

This happened to us and she was a girl. I hated not knowing for sure. DH has said this time if the legs are crossed we can have an extra gender scan.

PotteringAlong · 30/05/2018 08:09

The odds are 50/50, surely?

userabcname · 30/05/2018 08:12

This was nearly us - baby had his legs firmly crossed until, quite literally, the last minute when suddenly he flung them open and was unmistakably a boy!

AnMum · 30/05/2018 09:23

In the nicest possible way, ‘gutted’ is a pretty strong way to describe it. As someone who has had bad news from scans in the past, just be pleased you have a healthy baby and enjoy the element of surprise! We haven’t known with any of ours and finding out when you give birth is amazing!

Poptart4 · 30/05/2018 09:26

Happened to a girl I work with a couple of weeks ago. Baby's legs were crossed so could not see, sonographer guessed girl.

She had to go for another scan 2weeks later as the baby was lying in such an awkward position they couldnt finish the scan properly.

She's having a boy :)

If you really want to know you can book a private scan. Think there about €100 depending we're you go.

I'm sorry you've had bad news with previous scans. I have too and was rushed to hospital in an ambulance at my 20wk scan. I have to say that for me, I was terrified and emotional not gutted. I think it's ok for the Op to use the term gutted to describe how she feels and her feelings are valid. In the nicest possible way please don't use your experience as an excuse to mummy shame her.

Bowlofbabelfish · 30/05/2018 10:02

The chances are roughly 50:50.

If you want to know then a private scan is the way, or if you can afford it, genetic testing like one of the NIPT.

AnMum · 30/05/2018 10:13

Apologies, I had no intention of ‘Mummy shaming’ anyone. I just meant that in the grand scheme of things, it’s not the end of the world if you don’t know the gender. Look at it as the best surprise ever at the end of 9 long months!

Samakash · 30/05/2018 20:30

Thanks ladies...so it's 50/50🤗

I can understand disappointment, but gutted is a bit strong. I'm assuming everything else was fine with the anomaly scan?

If I were you I'd book a separate sex scan, that way you get to see the baby again too!

Samakash · 30/05/2018 20:59

May be my word choice was wrong.i don't mean to sound ungrateful. Just a bit disappointed but getting over it now. It really doesn't matter what I have. Girl or boy equally thankful. Everything else could be checked. All perfect thank god. 🤗
Think this baby wants to give us a surprise.
