I work for a large charity and have done for the past two and a half years. We don’t promote as a matter of course, rather support you when another role in the company comes up. I’ve been waiting for this particular role for over a year but it’s not been open, and now - suddenly- it is. But obviously, I’m pregnant! 😂 17 weeks to be precise. My line manager says I should go for it and explain the situation but if by some miracle I were to get it, I’d only be there two or three months before I’d be on mat leave. I know legally they can’t discriminate, but what do you think the ethics are of it? Should I ignore or try? Life brings along buses, sometimes!

If it's within the same company i think you'd be ok as it's a change of role rather than a new job with a new company. Don't worry about ethics, if it's something you want I think it's worth going for, maternity leave is temporary.

If you’ve been waiting a year than go for it! Worst thing that will happen is you will get interview experience for next time, if unsuccessful.

Go for it! Good luck! You already work for the charity so they won’t begrudge you going on leave.
