Birmingham Women’s Hospital Scans

Just wondering if anybody else is having their scans with the Women’s hospital and knows how much copies are?

I have £5 in pound coins in preparation but wanted to know if it’s likely to be more/less?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Dorabean · 29/05/2018 17:15

I'm not in Birmingham but it's £5 for one copy and £10 for 3 at my hospital. They have a machine where you pay and it can be with card if you want!

Stephisaur · 29/05/2018 17:54

That’s useful:) thank you @dorabean :)

Would be helpful for me to know this too @Stephisaur when you do find out!

Stephisaur · 29/05/2018 18:49

@englishirishrose I’ll update you Friday morning when I go 😂

I've had scans at the Women's and the photos are free :)

TinyTerror1 · 29/05/2018 19:10

That said I didn't get extra copies, if that's what you mean, as I just photographed it and emailed it around.

Stephisaur · 29/05/2018 19:18

@tinyterror1 Oo free? That’s great news :D I know my SIL has to pay for hers (not just copies) at heartlands but hopefully I won’t have to then :D

Yeah my 20-week scan was only two weeks ago and definitely didn't pay :) I was very pleased - I got two different pics as well!

EnglishIrishRose · 31/05/2018 09:07

Great, thanks @Stephisaur I do hope it's free. I've heard of £10 per copy in some places! Shock

Stephisaur · 31/05/2018 09:11

@EnglishIrishRose I hope so too! I remember my SIL shouting at my brother for forgetting money with their third!

When is your scan?

We're with Birmingham Women's Hospital and were given our scan photos (3) for free but they suggest you make a donation of £6, which can be done via a machine in the scan department by card or potentially at the reception desk if you want to pay in cash?

Our 20 week scan was done at a clinic that must be associated with the hospital and they charged £6 for one scan photo. Hope this helps!

Stephisaur · 31/05/2018 15:14

That's really helpful @theruffles :) no problem with giving a suggested donation at all, sounds like a good way of doing it :)

That's really weird no one even mentioned the option of donating to me. Mind you I had my scans in fetal medicine rather than in the main scanning department, didn't think about that!

Stephisaur · 01/06/2018 15:44

Ok, so what we didn’t see today was the sign in reception saying that you need to ASK for photos 🙄

Anyway, we managed to get one (which was free) but it’s not super clear because baby wouldn’t get in a good position 😂

Did the scan go well @Stephisaur? My scan is on the 21st, just under 3 weeks to go and I can't wait!

I've just looked at the letter again and realised my scan is actually booked in a community clinic near me - not even the Women's! Wasn't expecting that and I've never been to this clinic before.

Stephisaur · 02/06/2018 14:43

Oh that’s weird!

Yes it did thanks, apart from little bean being uncooperative and facing completely the wrong way 😂 I was sent for some chocolate and a walk, came back and baby had gone to sleep 😂

Printed off some copies of the scan (even though babe just looks like a little blob) to give to parents and grandparents this weekend :)

@EnglishIrishRose I had my dating scan at a community centre, only switched to the Women's for more detailed scans when they thought something might be wrong with baby. May depend where you're based I guess.

TinyTerror1 · 03/06/2018 14:11

Wasn't asked for money or donation at the children's centre although the scanning midwife had such a panic because of the high NT it's possible she just forgot 🙄 (I can laugh now as everything is fine! It was awful at the time. Hope yours goes well xx)

EnglishIrishRose · 04/06/2018 06:59

Thanks @TinyTerror1 it's strange as I only live 10 mins from the hospital. But I don't mind where I have the scan as long as baby is healthy.

Stephisaur that's funny, it's so strange to think about baby being asleep or awake at this early stage. It's like they're a real human baby or something Wink
