Hi everyone

I was due on my period The week of 23rd of April I didn’t have a period apart from a bit of red blood when I wiped on Thursday the 26th. And last week I was due a period but had absolutely naff all. I have had so many symptoms and have been feeling really rather unwell. My husband urged me to take a test at the beginning of May as my period was late and it came out negative. We went to Cuba the 3rd of May, drinking cocktails etc and on the 7th of May when we were away is when the real symptoms actually started! And we both thought it was weird. My husband got excited and wanted me to take another test before my period was due last week, I took one on the 18th of May and it came out negative. So I waited for my period and absolutely nothing. I thought it was sooo strange and how ill I have felt I started to worry something was wrong with me. I took another test this morning and it came out positive. I am so shocked. Did I take it too early before? I’m confused! Although I had negative results before today I knew I was pregnant and knew they were wrong - I’ve never been pregnant before so I don’t know how I knew!

Anyway, I can’t make a doctors appointment because it’s bank holiday Monday so I’ll call tomorrow. Does anyone know if it’s possible to calculate how many weeks you are at home?

I’m not sure where to start or what to do I feel kind of lost lol. Any advice on how to continue through this healthy would be great. I actually wanted to lose weight before I fell pregnant but I didn’t expect to actually fall pregnant this quick so I can’t actually lose any weight but I am concerned as I am overweight for my frame!

Thanks

Hi, congratulations, you calculate how many weeks you are starting from the first day of your last period. I actually lost weight in the first trimester (am a little overweight too) and now at 17 weeks I’ve put on a total of 3lbs. I made a GP appointment the week I found out and then they referred me to the midwife where I had my booking in appointment at 5 weeks, 5 days (my area seee you quite soon whereas others I’ve heard don’t see you til about 9/10 weeks).

Hi @HannahB1993
Congratulations!! It is a shock at first but a lovely one!
I'd count from the first day of your last period which sounds like could be March? You can still get negative test even when pregnant. So you could try a clearblue today with weeks indicator. I took one Saturday at it was BFP 2-3 weeks. However first day of my last period was 22nd April so I'm 5w+1.

Give it a go and see what it says good luck x

You could try the week's indicator clear blue test to give you an idea. Hopefully when you tell the GP the history they'll refer you for an early scan to check how far along you are. Congratulations!

Hi everyone

Thank you for your help! I have made an appointment for tomorrow at 11.40 with my GP and have been told by the receptionist after they they will refer me to a midwife. I kind of don’t believe it really, it feels odd at the mo!

Thanks for your support :)

Hey there.
I'm new to all this so sorry if I ask stupid questions.
I found out I was pregnant yesterday ( 28/5/18) as the pregnancy test was positive. I called the doctor this morning and they advised that pregnancy tests are now accurate and there was no need to confirm it by a doctor. So they advised me to sign up to a midwife. I have no accurate dates but me and the parter roughly worked out I'm about 6 weeks pregnant.
I take it the midwife can confirm dates for us?
Also what's the next step to do to look after me and my baby? Should I take folic acid Now?
As you can guess this is my first pregnancy and I haven't got a foggiest what to do lol.
All advice would be grateful.
I also haven't told anyone yet as I know that up to 12 weeks anything could happen ( so not even my parents or my partners parents now yet either)
Hope you can help
Thanks
Zoe

Hi Zoe

I don’t think I’d be much help because this is my first pregnancy too!

I went to the doctors today and my doc said it sounds like I am around 4-5 weeks so I went and had a blood test to confirm it. I’m getting my results in 2 days times and then I need to book my midwife appointment. So I guess it’s different for everyone?

I am taking folic acid I started a few weeks ago because I suspected I was pregnant. I’ve heard it’s ok if you haven’t taken them yet but maybe start now anyway.

I am really nervous about this whole situation! Are you?! I’m a big ball of nerves worrying I will MC because my mum had loads. I have heard it’s not necessarily hereditary but it’s still in the back of my mind- I just need to chill! Worrying about it won’t change anything!

Hope everything is okay with you!

Oh and as for not telling anyone before 12 weeks....well, I wasn’t going to say anything to anyone either. I ended up telling my parents because I needed support from my mum because I’ve been so ill with it! And I hate keeping secrets, I told my director at work so he knows if I’m unwell or not being myself he knows why. It probably seems way too early to other people but I just felt I needed to get it off my chest and have some sort of support other than my hubby! Don’t get me wrong, my husband is brilliant but I just need my mum in situations like this! But there is no right or wrong answer so do what you feel is best for you.

Hey
Thank you for the advice. I have ordered some folic acid and clear blue test to see how far gone I am. I have now registered with a midwife and got to call them on Friday morning. Me and the fella are still in shock but we are excited 😀. I have now informed my management team at work just in case things do happen and plus they will need to adapt my shifts if they clash with appointments. Luckly for me my assistant manager and I are really good friends outside of work so I can see that she will give me the support I need. It's my mum's 50th in August and she's having a party so I'm planning to announce it then in front of family and friends instead of phoning individually.
Congratulations on being your first too 😀.
How's things going with your pregnancy??
Thanks again
Zoe xx

HannahB1993 · 31/05/2018 08:18

Aww fantastic! It’s very exciting! Good luck x

I’m okay thanks, I seem to have every symptom going lol. I know people convince themselves they are pregnant too, I thought I was doing that because I kept getting loads of negatives! So in the end I gave up thinking I was and then missed my second period so i was sort of thinking nah I’m imagining this again and it came out positive, madness! This is why I’m so confused, how can I miss 2 periods and have all the symptoms, get nothing but negatives for the first month and then literally 2 days ago get a positive - our bodies are weird! I get my blood test results back in 2 days max and I’m so nervous! Typical me, I always overthink and assume the worst - you hear so many stories of people getting positive hpt and then false blood test!!

I hope everything is going good for you x

Hey
Yeah thanks things are going ok. Yeah sounds weird what you went through maybe the tests were faulty? Or your urine had too much sugar in it to make the test negative.. proper werid... I'm at work at the moment on night shifts hence why the replies are so late lol. I'm just struggling to stop smoking at the moment, I know they say that people should stop smoking straight away but proper difficult for me. I have cut down tho to 5-6 a day instead of the normal of 20 + a day. And these are roll ups not tailors so you can adjust how much tobacco you put in. I just need to find something that's going to help me keep occupied whilst the smoking cravings are coming in...

On the up side I'm calling the midwife for my first appointment in the morning so excited 😀.
Dunno if you want but I'm Facebook if you want to continue the chats on there as due to being on nights I don't check my emails that much and cant see notifications until late.
Feel free to add me Zoe Rusty Bud
Thanks
Zoe
Xx

Zoe cutting down is actually worse for you as when you limit yourself you will be smoking more of the cigarette and inhaling a lot more. You really should find yourself some support to quit im an ex smoker I tried the whole cut down thing and my midwife went spare at me and explained what I've just said so i stopped. Stopping smoking aids can be expensive but if you're pregnant you can get them for free take advantage of that.

Zoebud · 01/06/2018 19:47

Hey thanks for the advice. I didn't know that! Yeah will defo try and stop. Got my first midwife appointment on 18th June so either before that or after I should be at the stopping stage. Never attempted to give up before as I have never had a reason too so I think it's just going to take some time. I'll have a chat with my midwife when I see her and go from there x

Zoebud · 08/06/2018 00:59

Hey people
Need some advice on the sickness section. At this moment in time I'm going through morning sickness and recently at night. I'm working nights at the moment but throughout the night I seem to be getting what I only can describe is butterflies in my stomach and trapped air which I can feel glittering around.
Is there any ideas of how to settle this? I have been craving plain toast with a bit of butter on it. Which I have 2 pieces every evening but this doesn't seem to settle it. My evening meals seem to repeat on me which doesn't help with the air bubble suitation. I'm feeling nauseous but not actually being sick.. any foods that help this? I haven't had my first midwife appointment yet (18th june) so I'm also any sure of how far gone I am..
Any advice would be great
Thanks
Zoe
