Brown spotting at 5 weeks 2 days :( help!

I'm currently at 5 weeks and 2 days, due 25th Jan. Have had no problems so far and got pregnant first month trying.

But I woke up this morning, went to the bathroom, and noticed a small amount of brown in my underwear. When I wiped, there was quite a lot of brown discharge. I now feel so scared in case it's a miscarriage and I can't stop worrying!

Went again a few hours later and there was a bit more. Sorry for tmi but the closest I can describe it as is like wiping bbq sauce with a napkin. Brown maybe ever so slightly red. It's similar to what I used to get before a period sometimes (but not every time). No pain or cramping at all, and boobs still feel a bit bruised.

I have my first antenatal appointment booked for Tuesday morning and can't get seen any quicker because it's a Bank Holiday weekend but I'm a bag of nerves.

I had no implantation bleeding at all before my BFP. is it possible it could be that, even though i got my BFP 9 days ago now??

Has anyone else had anything similar and it turn out to be ok?

I had brown spotting at 10 weeks and my baby was fine - now burbling away to herself. Some women just spot. The antenatal appointment won't be much help but see if the midwife will refer you to the EPU for a scan. It might be a bit early to see a heartbeat but if you can hang on to 7 or 8 weeks and you see a heartbeat the odds are overwhelmingly in favour of a successful pregnancy I think.

Darkstar4855 · 27/05/2018 16:41

I had this on and off between 5 and 7 weeks and it was just a bit of implantation bleeding. I’m now nearly 13 weeks and everything’s fine. Fingers crossed it’ll be the same for you x

RainbowsAndUnicorns23 · 27/05/2018 18:10

I had this and it was a haematoma, basically a bruise on my womb. It did get re absorbed by my 20 week scan, i am now 30 weeks x

Montypulciano · 27/05/2018 18:11

My brown bleeding is now watching Netflix aged 13! It’s very normal. Try not to worry 💐💐

Elllicam · 27/05/2018 18:14

I had this at the same gestation with my third son, it lasted a few days and the midwife said it was implantation. He was absolutely fine.

MagicalCreatures · 27/05/2018 18:24

Yep same here.
I spotted light brown at 5 weeks.
At 6 weeks I had abit more and it was abit darker.
I saw my little bean and 6 weeks 4 days and saw a heartbeat.
At 7 weeks it totally stopped and I haven’t had anymore since (touch wood) and I actually heard the heartbeat at another scan at 9 weeks. I’m now 9+3.
Apparently they say brown blood is old blood and can appear for a number of reasons.
It doesn’t always mean something bad x

Spooples · 27/05/2018 20:59

I'm still getting brown discharge but it seems much lighter now (touch wood) in terms both colour and flow. It hasn't turned red at all. I still feel very very anxious but at least it's not red.

I was planning to tell my parents about the pregnancy next weekend and now I'm not sure if I should hold off telling them until I know things are OK :'-(

My brown spotting baby is in bed on the eve of her second birthday. It was terrifying but she was fine.

Spooples · 28/05/2018 08:12

Had a wee again this morning and when I wiped there was a tiny bit more but it really looks like the tail end of it now (touch wood). I REALLY hope it's just spotting like a lot of you ladies have experienced rather than something more serious.

Thank you all so much for talking to me and helping me calm down. Because it's my first time I feel so anxious about everything.

I will update again in a few days when I know more xxx

More again :'-( it's still brown but more of it and it's now been about 30 hours since I first noticed it. My anxiety is going mad :(:(:(

Hi I had brown bleeding for a week (also had 2 MCs although with my MCs it was always red and not brown) started off as light brown discharge and got heavier and heavier, and went to the toilet a few days later and saw loads of browny red on the paper, completely panicked and went to A&E, was told it was a threatened MC so had a scan a few days later. I had miscalculated my dates so I was supposed to be 6 weeks (was more like 4 and a half) so they didn't see anything, I went back 2 weeks later and saw a heartbeat :)
Almost 36 weeks now! I know it's easier said than done but please try not to panic - brown is better than red and it can be quite common. I was told it could've possibly been implantation. Good luck Smile

(Also the bleeding stopped completely a few days after my scan and never returned, v odd!)

Hi, have you phoned epu? I had this in two pregnancies - one was a miscarriage and I am sitting feeding the other one just now! There is no way of telling without a scan. Hope everything works out for you xx

Even ladies. Im29 n first time pregnant happy and sad at the same time. All week has been good besides morning sickness wch now stopped. Last month I had cramps n bleeding got admitted for 2-3days and dr booked me for a week strictly bed rest. The bleeding stoped was prescribed duphaston n contromet for bleeding n pains. Friday at work had shap pain as if somebody stubbed me with a knife with no time the bleeding came. Was rushed to the hospital and got discharged today. First time the bleeding wasnt heavy and the cramps wasnt bad at all. But friday I thought I was gonna die the test were dine n ultra sound my little one is moving and playing bt dr said its a threatened miscarriage though first time was told its normal to happen. Im 17 weeks n I dont know what to expect anymore as the pains worsen when I got home and bleeding start. Anymore with similar experience pls share.

Mousefunky · 28/05/2018 23:48

The fact you have said it looks like BBQ sauce is slightly concerning as that’s quite dark and dark discharge can point towards an ectopic. I would contact your GP or local EPAU if you can self refer in your area, you need a scan.

Some spotting can be normal. I am 17+2 and had some light pink/brown at 4 weeks which was implantation but I also had just brown grainy looking spotting with my missed miscarriage so I never take brown spotting lightly.

Update:
Woke up this morning to find I was still spotting. Took another FRER and the result was strongly positive. Went to my first antenatal appointment, and she advised I visit the EPU.

DH and I went to the EPU for a drop in appointment and I had a transvaginal ultrasound. We could see the gestational sac which had a blood supply, but no visible embryo or heartbeat. Doctor said it is too early, and booked us in for another scan in 2 weeks. Said unless it gets heavier or painful to try not to worry.

I'm still worrying though. The next 2 weeks are going to feel really long, and I'm going to have to let my boss know I'm pregnant as the appointment is in the middle of the day :/

Oh... Also definitely not ectopic :)

I just posted again this morning (www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/3272873-Pretty-sure-Im-miscarrying-at-7-weeks) - lots of red bleeding, cramping, and a small foetus. I think I'm miscarrying :'(

Oh spooples I am so sorry.

Spooples · 12/06/2018 19:19

Updating this incase anyone ends up with something similar in future and finds this through Dr Google.

Unfortunately I miscarried over the weekend. Started bleeding heavily at 7 weeks. Baby measures closer to 5 weeks. :(
