NIPT Harmony testing for Down - is it still detectable at 16 weeks?

Hi,

I am new to the forum, also having my first pregnancy and I am bit worried so far due to NHS first results. My nuchal measurements were fine, just the blood test resulted that I am in high risk (1:60) for Down Syndrome.

I decided to have a second opinion and opted for NIPT Harmony testing at a private clinic ( The birth Company London). After a week of waiting for the results, it came back I need to do another blood redraw and my blood results couldn't be taken. They said it was the quality of the blood sample not good enough.

I am a bit worried, what if the second time around, they are still unable to come back with a firm result so that I can have peace or mind.

I am currently in my 16th week of pregnancy and I wonder if this is still detectable or not? I know everyone tells me the actual way to find out is via Amnio, but I still want to wait for Harmony test to be done first as I paid £500.

Any suggestions, recommendations on how best to cope with this situation?

Many thanks,
Cony

It should work at any point during the pregnancy after 10 weeks because it looks at the actual fragments of DNA in your blood stream, which would (I imagine?) be more likely to be greater rather than lesser as the pg continues. Have you asked your provider what their policy is if they can't give you a firm result from the second draw?

Yes, it is still detectable. I hope your next blood sample is able to give you conclusive and reassuring results.

Yes it is detectable, had mine at 16weeks and got the results. They did have issues with my bloods one vial didn’t have enough data so they retested with the other vial. I have heard sometime they need to retest. Hope everything goes well with yours

thank you so much ladies, appreciate all your responses. Hope the second time works and I get an answer. I had no idea it can be so stressful.
