How long should a baby sleep in a Moses basket for before being transferred to a cot xxxx

Roughly 3 months with my first - some babies outgrow their moses baskets earlier!

3 months - my DD outgrew it

MrsDilber · 24/05/2018 07:01

They'll be out of them by 3 months. Mine were before (big babies). I had a proper, flat pram in the living room, which was great for rocking them to sleep. The one pram, that had a seat attachment for when they were older, served all 3 of mine.

If you haven't got a big budget don't bother to buy one as they are not in them very long. A cot will be fine.

I moved mine from Moses basket to cotbed with side off against our bed at about 4 months. We ended up buying a grande sleepy head and put that in cot which helped with the transition I think.

everybody says they’re not in them for long but my DD wasn’t small - 8lb 3 and long and she slept in it til at least 6 months :)

lifechangesforever · 24/05/2018 07:22

I've bought a bedside crib which are bigger so they can stay in longer. For the living room I've got a bouncer that lies fully flat, as well as the pram carrycot.

TittyGolightly · 24/05/2018 07:26

Doesn’t matter what they sleep in as long as there is an adult in the room with them when they are sleeping for the first 6 months (at least).

TwittleBee · 24/05/2018 11:09

Just get yourself a cot (usually a lot cheaper than moses baskets anyway!). DS outgrew his moses by 3 months and ended up having to go buy a cot! He then got moved to his cot-bed at 6 months. I suppose moses basket was handy for living room naps during the day though in those first few months (although I'm sure a bouncer or something would have been equally as useful)

No idea as I hate Moses baskets. My ds was in his crib until he was 4 months old.

Mousefunky · 24/05/2018 11:30

My DC didn’t last long in theirs but they were all 10 lb babies. I’m thinking about getting a crib this time instead or just putting them straight into the cot.

My daughter outgrew hers at about 3 months. But she was sleeping in the cot in our room at home with the side lowered, swaddled, from about 6 weeks anyway - we used the carrycot from our travel system for the first 6 weeks and then for travelling until she grew out of it as it was suitable for permanent sleeping.
