30 week scan

Hello!

I’ve just received a letter for a scan at 30 weeks. It’s called a “US Obstetric Fetal Growth” check. There’s no other details about why I’m getting the scan.

I thought there was just meant to be a 12 week scan and a 20 week scan?

Apologies if this is standard and I didn’t realise.

Thanks!

Is it your second? It could be because previous babies were big/small at birth - I've been told I'll get more scans with second because my first was so big.
Or because of diabetes/risk of diabetes and then still to do with checking size of baby.

Also, it may be because you have a lower lying placenta and they want to check on it, I got warned about that at first scan but by the 20 week scan my placenta was in a good position

Thanks. Sounds like it’s not something everyone gets as a matter of course then.

This is my first. I wondered if my age was a factor (I’m 35).

All the blood tests I’ve had have been fine. I was told at my booking appointment that I was a low risk pregnancy. The only other reasons I can think of is that they found fibroids at the 12 week scan, but I was told their position meant they shouldn’t be a problem.

Or - I did mention I’d been in a zika country, so it might be in response to that. The midwife had reassured me that it was v low risk though.

I can’t remember anything being said about a low lying placenta or anything like that. Good to know though.

I don't think it's done as routine-just 12 and 20 are. I had a scan at 32 weeks due to a low lying placenta. Could be that? Or yes, maybe the zika connection?

Hey.

A wee update. I had a midwife appointment today and it turns out the scan is precautionary with the zika link.

I got to hear the babies heartbeat for the first time. It was pretty cool 😀!
