Stretch marks appeared overnight

I know it’s normal and to be expected but they look absolutely awful. I didn’t have any until 33 weeks (I’m nearly 35 now) and they keep getting worse despite me putting 3 lots of bio oil on a day.

I’m so excited to meet my baby girl (first baby) but I think it’s all got real- my body isn’t going to be the same and it’s depressing. They’re on my hips and low down on my bump at the moment but seems to be getting angrier/worse.

Just feeling a bit sorry for myself. Do they ever go away completely?

I didn't have any stretch marks until about 38 weeks, then suddenly the appeared almost overnight. They disappeared quite quickly after I gave birth.

Pebblespony · 23/05/2018 16:38

I was smugly congratulating myself for escaping them. Then, bang, loads overnight. They're mostly gone. I'm still carrying some baby weight though. They bothered me a bit when I got them. Couldn't care less now. Got used to them, I suppose.

Wildlingofthewest · 23/05/2018 16:42

They will never disappear completely no, the colour will fade and eventually and they will turn a silvery colour.
No amount of oil or cream will stop you from getting them either, if you are going to get them then they will just happen I’m afraid.

@Honey456 exactly the same thing happened to me at 36w! Literally overnight and am now covered. Just keep moisturising, there's nothing else you can do Thanks

Wolfiefan · 23/05/2018 18:27

Moisturising won't help a bit.

Cat12321 · 23/05/2018 18:52

@Wolfiefan it will with itching Smile

I got a bunch on my right boob that appeared over night. Left boob still fine, but I'm only half way through!

Foggymist · 23/05/2018 19:06

Bio Oil doesn't stop them forming, it helps to fade them afterwards, as it does with other scars.

villageshop · 23/05/2018 19:11

It is a shock the way they appear literally overnight. It's a long time ago now but I still remember I'd just been boasting to someone about no stretchmarks and bang, the very next morning there they were.

They do fade to silvery over time and although nothing will undo the stretched skin you do get used to them and eventually stop noticing them.

Mousefunky · 23/05/2018 19:13

They never completely disappear but they fade to an extent they’re not noticeable. I was covered with DC1 but they didn’t show again in my subsequent pregnancies for whatever reason and I don’t notice them now at all.

dinosaurkisses · 23/05/2018 19:17

I was the same- I got to 38 weeks thinking I'd lucked out and them BAM! I looked in the mirror one morning and saw the pink lines around my belly button. I was raging!

They never got too bad though, and now DD is eight months they've faded significantly without any fancy oils or whatever.

Honey456 · 23/05/2018 20:01

Thanks everyone.

Bio oil may not be helping but even just applying it makes me feel better and does seem to stop the itching.

5 weeks to go and tbh I just can’t wait to get my body back. I definitely took things for granted before pregnancy (being able to move/ walk/ run!). I have some stretch marks from when I was a teenager on my thighs/ hips which have faded a lot so I’m hoping these will be the same. :)

In my first pregnancy I was pleased that I seem to have got away with stretch marks well into my 3rd trimester, I was using Bio oil religiously and also some Palmars shea butter.

Around 38 weeks they appeared overnight!
Luckily just around the lower part of my bump, not that noticeable but to me they were, I suppose I was keeping a close check!

They did fade pretty quickly, was happy to be in a bikini before 6 months postpartum.

This time I've been going with the Bio oil and so far so good, into the 3rd trimester now. Hoping they do not appear until v late (hopefully not at all!) like last time!

@Honey456
I feel the exact same way I 32+5 and they seem to be coming thick and fast on my hips and bottom of bump and on my boobs.. I put bio oil on as and when I remember as the smell makes me feel sick and I have the greasy feeling after but yes even though I am so excited to meet my baby girl ( also first baby) I have been thinking a lot recently about what I'm going to look like after and it is upsetting me but I almost feel guilty because this is such a beautiful experience and I'm so lucky but I can't help also think and feel the way I /we do .. stretch marks do fade over time and use oil after also as mentioned above somewhere it helps fade them 😌
