Please tell me all your positive stories about going into spontaneous labour when you've reached 41 weeks and your MW couldn't even get in to do a half decent sweep

Yeah, as the title says really.

I've had 3 sweeps and each time have been 1cm dilated (standard for second DC) with a posterior cervix.

I'm booked in for a term +10 over the weekend but would love to go into spontaneous labour during the next week.

Please tell me it's possible!!

Well I did. 40+10. Totally spontaneous, out of the blue, zero symptoms in the 10 days before, then waters went. Barely had time to hop out of the bed!

Stephisaur · 23/05/2018 16:04

My mum went into spontaneous labour at around 42 weeks with me Grin

They would have induced a couple of days later, apparently.

Oh, and I popped out in around 30 minutes (3rd born)

ISeeTheLight · 23/05/2018 16:24

I did! 40w+10. I hadn't even dilated. I had 2 sweeps with seemingly no result. Was booked in for induction on 40w+12 (my birthday - so was also very keen to avoid that). It was a very quick labour too - went from 2cm to 10cm in under 4hrs. First and (so far) only child. Good luck

These are excellent, thank you! Please do keep them coming!

If one more person tells me that I won't be pregnant forever I will not be held accountable for my actions.

Yup it can happen! I had my third sweep booked for 4pm on the Friday and I awoke that day thinking I just had bad Braxton Hicks . They got worse and worse and I just thought oh il speak to midwife at 4...long story short I make it down
For 4pm straight to delivery I was 9cm dilated and had baby half an hour later 😂😂😂.. that was my second baby. You'd have thought I would have realized I was in Labour . I had a notion of the idea about lunchtime ohhh maybe I'm starting here myself sure we'll see! Etc etc... didn't expect her to fly out the womb at such speed. Good luck!!! It's so exciting!

TeaAtBettys · 23/05/2018 19:42

I had a sweep at 41weeks. The midwife said my cervix was very high and closed and that it'd be a while yet. 12 hours later I started having contractions with no warning signs and had dd the next day.

Hang in there xx

TheyCanGoInTheBucket · 23/05/2018 20:29

Lola and Tea this is exactly what I need to hear, THANK YOU!

I've resigned myself to being pregnant for at least another few days so anything less than this will be a huge bonus.

Ooo how exciting !! Any news! Xx

SecretStash · 24/05/2018 06:38

Very much possible.

I had two failed sweeps, only 1cm dilated and still went into labour on my own at 10 days over due.

Fear not!

Cat12321 · 24/05/2018 07:08

I'm 40+2 and booked in for a sweep today. Hoping to go into spontaneous labour within the next few hours, highly doubt it though haha.

All the best, OP SmileThanks

mostdays · 24/05/2018 07:13

Went into spontaneous labour at 41+3 with ds2. Think sex the night before had something to do with it. Lovely birth, 2 hours 45 minutes in total. I'd been booked in to have a sweep that day (they'd booked it, mind, I had no intentions of letting them do it) but labour started all on its own.

TheyCanGoInTheBucket · 24/05/2018 07:54

Nothing yet but am 41+1 today. I had a dream last night that my waters went which may be a woo sign 😂

Rinceoir · 24/05/2018 07:58

Midwife/obs were unable to sweep at 40 weeks or 41 weeks. Went into labour on the evening of 41+2 and was 5cm dilated when I turned up for my induction.

elmo1980 · 24/05/2018 08:03

Happened to me last week. Left consultant at 41 weeks crying because I reluctantly booked c section for two days later. Started having contractions that night! Good luck it can happen anytime!

sola82 · 24/05/2018 08:04

With DS1, at 41 weeks the midwife couldn't do a sweep because my cervix was too far back. She told me it would be a while and booked me in for an induction. That night my waters broke.

Good luck OP!

Murane · 24/05/2018 08:05

I had 3 failed sweeps. My body just didn't want to let go of my baby! Finally went into natural labour at 41+1 but my body still didn't want to let go and I failed to dilate over two days, so I was given an emergency c-section.

HerSymphonyAndSong · 24/05/2018 08:07

A bit earlier than you but at 40 weeks cervix was very posterior and closed and they couldn’t even attempt a sweep

Contractions started spontaneously at 40+2 and he was born 40+3

The VE only tells you the state of the cervix at that moment and things can change quickly

CaMePlaitPas · 24/05/2018 08:07

I need to hear these stories too. I'm due on Saturday 26th May and I've had no symptoms, unlike my first when I had Braxton Hicks from about 8 months, mucusy discharge for about 2 weeks and then boom - had her on my due date. I'm physically spent, achey and just want baby to arrive but it feels like she isn't going anywhere yet.

FleurDelacoeur · 24/05/2018 08:09

I did! Second baby was born at 40 +9, the day before I was due to have an induction.

TheyCanGoInTheBucket · 24/05/2018 10:09

I think I may have just lost my mucous plug 💃🏻 (Sorry TMI). I thought I'd lost it before but this was definitely a 'urgh, wtf is that' moment.
