Calculating due date

Hey everyone!

I've just joined Mumsnet and apologies in advance for TMI - BUT...

A couple of weeks ago my partner and I found out we were expecting a baby (yay!). It wasn't planned but a wonderful surprise all the same.

I've been trying to calculate my due date, but I'm not sure what to go off. I track my periods using an app on my phone called Flo, but my last period was MUCH lighter than usual with barely any cramps and lasted about 4 days (not normal for me as I am usually heavy, crippled and it lasts 5-6 days). My next period was late (which prompted the pregnancy test!) but I'm not sure if my previous period was actually implantation bleeding and whether I need to go off the one before that for my due date.

I've made an appointment at the maternity ward at our local hospital and I explained this to the lady on the phone and she has actually booked me in for my first 12 week scan on 4th June!

I'm either 7 weeks or 11 weeks depending on which one I go off, but I am just wondering if anyone else had the same thing and what they went off?

I don't mind either way, I just really want to know for certain how far along I am and I'm too impatient to wait until 4th June (these next 8 months aren't going to be easy for me then haha!)

Thanks!

I had exactly the same thing. My midwife also chose to believe that I was 4 weeks ahead and booked me in for the 12 week scan based on this date. She said that it was better to be too early for the 12 week scan and then have to go back at 12 weeks, rather than be too late for it. I was actually 8 weeks when I went for the scan, but then gained a week back by the time I had the 12 week scan for the second time!

@ithallhappensforareason aww thanks! I guess I'll just have to wait and see how it goes! Excitement is getting the better of me Grin

Congrats Soph! Flowers

Certainly does sound like implantation bleeding and I'm assuming the MW thinks so too which is why your 12 week scan is only round the corner. You'll know then for sure either way. As PP said, better to be early then late with the 12 week scan.

Way I look at is, if you are only 7 weeks, then you'll get two early pregnancy scans so extra chance to see your baby.

Good luck

Also just to add remember that although they go by your last period, this date will still be out by about 2 weeks as ovulation would occur roughly 14 days after your LMP, i.e. you wouldn't have got pregnant straight away after your period, and it can then take another 10 or so days for implantation to occur. I know the wait is excruciating but it will all become much clearer at your scan(s)!

Hi @sophiemaypeacock congratulations!

I'm currently 9 weeks so you're not too far away from me either way!

I guess you'll just have to wait! I had an early scan when I thought I was 7+4 (according to LMP) but I was measured at 6+5 so I almost lost a week!

You'll know soon Smile how exciting is this feeling though ThanksThanksThanks

My understanding is that implantation bleeding shouldn't be enough to notice, so I think you might have just had a light period.

I would say you'll be about 7 weeks at your scan, but this will just mean you get an extra scan nearer 12 weeks so no harm done :D

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

What turned out to be my implantation bleeding lasted about 4 days too and it was actually quite heavy - so much so that I thought it was my period at first, until I realised it wasn't AS heavy and didn't last as long as my usual period. So it could well have been implantation.

Ahh thanks everyone! I'm even more excited now hehe Grin !
