Hi, i had this and was told (by a midwife and doctor) that a had a cervical erossion (a weekness in the cervix caused by pregnancy hormones)

Mumpbump · 18/05/2007 12:25

Go and see your doctor. A friend of a friend had this and they were advised not to have full-on sex...

ScaryHairy · 18/05/2007 12:26

You should get it checked out.

How far along are you?

I bled at about 14 weeks and that was just one of those things, but equally a friend of mine's bleeding was caused by the position of the placenta, and she was advised not to have sex for the rest of her pregnancy.

mother2b · 18/05/2007 12:34

i hope thats not the case! i am nine weeks but have been having it for about 4 weeks(basically since ive known), we will make love then i will bleed, not alot, just so the, ahem, residue? is pink so we wont do it for a while and then when we do its ok, but then it will happen again?!?!

i've miscarried before and it wasnt like this, it was a full on bleed?

have had stomach cramps also but i were told they were normal so have just been ignoring them (because my dr advised me not to take paracetomal in the first three months, i really hope everything is going to be ok!

you might have a cervical erosion

and i would avoid sex until you have been checked out, to make sure it is nothing else!

the fact it happens after sex makes it likely to be a cervical erosion, the friction of having sex might 'irritate' it, and make you bleed a little bit

but, any sort of bleeding and cramping in early pregnany should be checked , your Doc should possibly refer you to an EPU

mother2b · 18/05/2007 14:14

whats cervical erosion?

OP posts:
lulumama · 18/05/2007 14:16

the surface of the cervix is 'worn away' ever so slightly, it is not dangerous nor does it cause problems in pregnancy

mother2b · 18/05/2007 14:22

would that be caused by the lentgh of my bf's, um, thingy because its really quite big

Hi mother2b, I had this on Tuesday this week and was checked out at hospital, I'm 21 weeks, they weren't worried at all. The midwife said it is SO common (post coital bleeding they called it) and yes it is often caused by a cervical erosion. A cervical erosion is basically the lining of the inside of the cervix growing on the outside (exposed) part of the cervix, which makes it prone to bleeding, esp after sex. The midwife also compared this sort of bleed in pregnancy as being similar to nose bleeds, and bleeding gums (that are also common in pregnancy), due to increased blood volume/supply. It's always worth getting it checked, if anything to get reassurance. HTH

lulumama · 18/05/2007 14:24

you might want to find some different positions, where penetration is perhaps less deep, so that you avoid too much irritation to the cervix?

lulumama · 18/05/2007 14:25

that is a much more accurate explanation Hopeitwontbebig !!

mother2b · 18/05/2007 14:26

are you still able to make love to your parnter, im sorry to be so rude and ask!

Hopeitwontbebig · 18/05/2007 14:28

TBH it did hurt when we attempted it on Tues, so we're both a little traumatised! Think we'll maybe be a bit inventive during remainding months and try 'other' things!

Hopeitwontbebig · 18/05/2007 14:28

I thank you Lulu

lulumama · 18/05/2007 14:29

goodness me, not rude to ask that sort of thing

making love put a baby in there remember !! just take things slow, and make sure you are comfortable !

mother2b · 18/05/2007 14:36

it doesnt hurt, but when we do it i am very conscious of how far it is in, but i can only orgasm when im on top! dont suppose that is similar with either of you and if so can you sud=ggest another way where i might get enjoyment without potentially harming baby (i think i will go to doctors to be on safe side)
