Hi
Just looking for some reassurance really.
I have a bladder condition which mean I can be prone to bladder infections.
I feel pregnant back in December and got a bladder infection instantly and was given Nitrofurantoin.
Anyway, I then miscarried as baby never developed.
I’m now 8 weeks pregnant and last week I went to the docs with a urine sample as was showing some signs of another bladder infection.
She said I had blood and white blood cells in the sample, gave me Nitrofurantoin again and sent the sample of for further testing.
I’ve been take the tablets and just had a phone call from the surgery saying to drop another sample in as the last one had now come back as ‘no infection found’
I’m now panicking that I’ve been taking the Nitrofurantoin when I didn’t need too and have done damage to the baby.
I know they say it’s meant to be safe. But have any of you taken his and gone on to be fine?
Just need some reassurance and positive stories please?

I’ve been prescribed these as there was a small chance I had an infection - NICE guidelines say that all women with symptoms should be treated - the tablets apparently go straight into your urine and won’t harm the baby whether or not you have an infection xx

It's fine to take but definitely not from week 38 onward as there is a risk it can cause jaundice in the baby.

As with any ABs, only take them when needed so it's actually really good that they've retested and told you to stop.

There won't have been any harm to you or the baby.
