I was wondering when ( or if) everyone else went through this with their midwife? I'm 38 weeks and still don't have one.

Sorry if this is a stupid question I'm a first time mum!

Midwife didn't go through mine but saw that I had one in my book.

To be honest I just had down my preferences but I couldn't stick to it due to difficult birth.

My next appointment is at 36 weeks and I’ve been told that’s when we’ll do the birth plan. Not sure if each area is different though?

My Midwife went through mine at 36 weeks which was lucky as my waters went before my 38 w appointment!

EmmaJR1 · 21/05/2018 21:15

I think my first one was done at 36 weeks but this time round it will be 38 weeks.
If it makes you feel better put all your wishes down in writing and add it to your notes just in case.

I wrote down my preferences in my green folder but it all went out the window anyway due to DD being premature and it being a difficult labour.

GummyGoddess · 21/05/2018 21:28

You can just write one yourself and stick/staple it in your notes if you want to, they're your notes. Remember to include your after birth plan as well, don't just focus on the labour and assume it stops as soon as baby has emerged, also go through it with your birth partner. I gave DH a copy of mine to refer to with the bits for him highlighted.

Might be worth thinking of your ideal plan in multiple scenarios so you aren't disappointed should things not go as expected.

We were asked to do it by 34 weeks. I hadn't and mw reminded me at 34 week appt but then didn't check if I'd done it later. If I'd had any questions I'd have raised them with her though. It was very basic anyway and in the event the midwives asked me what I wanted anyway so needn't have bothered.
