Only like eating carbs and junk food first tri

Anyone else crave junk food more? Before I was pregnant I didn't look forearm to eating as much, didn't crave junk food now I am obsessed with noodles, pizza, chips, crisps, basically mostly carb unhealthy foods. Also I still like fruit, veg is repulsive. I have morning sickness but it's not that bad.
Will this go away in second tri? Don't wanna gain loads of weight and not sure if nutrition matters much for the baby?

Yes, I went from swimming twice weekly and eating low carb to literally ripping open bags of plain white bread and stuffing them into my mouth Grin Couldn't help it, was the only thing that helped my nausea. Couldn't touch lettuce until 16 weeks. After that I went back to normal! Keep taking your prenatal vitamins and listen to your body - it's using a lot of energy! I'm 34 weeks now and can't eat much anymore due to baby squashing my stomach so enjoy it while you can!

Ive eaten so much rubbish it's unbelievable! If your suffering from nausea or morning sickness just eat what makes you feel ok. I asked my midwife if it was ok that I ate ice cream and cookies for tea the night before and she was fine with it! I've actually lost 3 pounds as I lose my appetite each evening so not eating much then. Hoping to get back to a more healthy eating plan once in the 2nd tri....

Same. Carbs were the only thing that kept my nausea at bay so I was eating so much junk food it’s untrue. I’m now 16 weeks and still having some nausea but nowhere near as bad, the junk food cravings are also dissipating. Just keep taking your vitamin.

voxnihili · 20/05/2018 08:34

I was exactly the same and at 27 weeks my diet is quite carb heavy. I’m starting to eat veg again but it still doesn’t taste nice. Despite my carb intake I’ve gained exactly the right amount of weight. I do go swimming 5 times a week though.

Nothisispatrick · 20/05/2018 09:03

I was the same, the thought of veg was disgusting but fruit was still fine. I think I ate chips almost every day. I'm back to normal in the second trimester.

SoyDora · 20/05/2018 09:06

God I wish I could eat even that much variety. For 2 weeks now I’ve eaten toast, ham sandwiches and rich tea biscuits. That’s it.

Stephisaur · 20/05/2018 09:30

Carbs galore over here too. My go to snack is crisps at the moment. DH can’t believe how many packs I’m getting through as I don’t usually eat them 😂

NotAnotherJaffaCake · 20/05/2018 09:34

Survived the first 14 weeks on lemon ice lollies and pickled onion monster munch. Took a multivitamin thing. You’ll be fine.

BlueBug45 · 20/05/2018 11:12

I craved tinned fruit salad, jelly, Haribo, cake and custard, Weetabix, toast, more toast, more toast, crisps, more crisps, more toast, chocolate, more crisps,...

I don't normally eat crisps and Weetabix, and haven't eaten tinned fruit salad, cake and custard, and jelly for years.

After 16-17 started eating normally again.

Emma198 · 20/05/2018 11:14

I've eaten a lot of bread. Also same with veg, can't face veg but eating lots of fruit. Can still eat salad just now cooked veg 😷

Emma198 · 20/05/2018 11:14

*not cooked veg

zaalitje · 20/05/2018 12:39

My baby was made of scampi fries, greggs pasties and M&S milkshake for the first trimester, possibly a bit longer.

emwithme · 20/05/2018 13:00

My baby is going to come out dressed like a clown and only answering to Ronald, or alternatively is going to be 90% chicken Caesar salad wrap.

EnglishIrishRose · 20/05/2018 13:23

So glad it's not just me! All I want to eat are crisps, crackers, salty crunchy things or potato. Oh, and veggie burgers / sausages. In the last few days I can't even enjoy those things thanks to terrific heartburn. I usually love food and I'm finding it really hard.

vampirethriller · 20/05/2018 13:30

All I want is cereal, sweets, pot noodle, ice lollies, ham sandwiches and yogurt. Some fruits, but no veg and onions make me heave.

Luxembourgmama · 20/05/2018 13:37

I think it's pretty standard. I put on 20kgs when I was pregnant and was given out to. And I didn't lose to all.

Clarashan · 21/05/2018 02:56

I'm 19 weeks and just starting to get back to normal although still eating a lot of Chocolate and craving cake all the time. Trying to make veg heavy dinners like stews and soups though. I'm also hungry all day, grazing constantly then of a night don't really have any interest in food.

LadyCassandra · 21/05/2018 03:58

Yes, especially this time around (3rd baby). I went from low carving and vowing to try and stay relatively healthy to eating nothing but white toast and chips! I’m now 34 weeks and still pretty carb heavy, but it’s winter where I am so i’ve started making soups to get some veggies.
2nd time around was pretty much the same, slightly less extreme, but he’s a healthy fit 6yo so I’m not too worried!

PeachesandPie · 21/05/2018 04:07

I was sick every time I ate a vegetable for most of my pregnancy, could just about eat salad the last month or so. Took a few weeks after dd was born before I could face cooked veg! I lived off junk food for 9 months, gained almost 4 stone but have a perfectly healthy dd and 6 months later the weight has gone without any effort. You'll be fine!

drinkingwinefeelingfine · 21/05/2018 08:50

Pretty sure all I ate was ice cream and kfc chips. Everything else was 🤢

isthismummy · 21/05/2018 10:13

My first trimester mainly consisted of coco pops, rusks, chocolate milkshakes and rich tea biscuits.

I’m now 21+4. I still can’t stomach pizza or quorn (the last ones a bugger as I’m a vegetarian)

ememem84 · 21/05/2018 10:16

Yep. I ate probably my body weight in salt and vinegar squares and coke. And haribo sour strawbs.

GruffaloPants · 21/05/2018 10:23

My first pregnancy I craved super healthy food - porridge, fruit, grilled salmon, salads etc.

Second one - junk all the way - mars bars, McDonald's, ice cream, smoked sausages, 20p packs of chicken noodles.

Third - mushroom pizza. But I'm only 4+6 so anything could happen...

butlerswharf · 21/05/2018 10:33

It's completely normal to crave carbs in the first trimester. I just enjoy it, it's what your body wants!
