My bump

Hi I am 24 and I am 26 + 3 weeks pregnant with my first baby. I keep getting told that I have a very big bump for how far along I am and it's making me concerned about labour. Today when I was at work (I work in customer service) and I served a woman who only had 10 due left and she didn't seem that much bigger than me. BlushDoes this mean my baby will probably be gigantic? Or could I be carrying a lot of fluid or something? I'm thirsty all the time. Thanks.

People always make comments about my bump being too small... Made me panic so I spoke to midwife, actually mine is 2cm bigger than normal for my stage so it just goes to show that bump looks can be deceiving! Have they started measuring your bump at midwife checks yet? They will do pretty soon and you can see what they say then :-) I also find what I wear makes a massive difference to how the bump looks!!

SomebodysNotInBedYet · 19/05/2018 18:38

It looks exactly like I'd expect a bump to be at that stage. Every woman's body carries differently, it doesn't always correlate to the size of the baby. Someone told me a month ago that I'm 'looking pretty big now'. I was 16 weeks! Mostly people just want to say something about it I think.

NinaMarieP · 19/05/2018 19:10

People just run their mouths off. It totally depends on what you're wearing, what your starting weight/body shape is, how much you've eaten, your posture...

Me at 26 weeks last year, probably a bit bigger than you, I had an 8lb 11 baby at 39+6. He was biggish, but not huge!

Your midwife will tell you if she has any concerns about your fundal height.

@Aw12345 Yeah what I wear at work is quite tight so maybe making it look a lot bigger than it actually is! Not had those checks yet but think she mentioned doing them at 28 weeks so hopefully will put my mind at ease lol.

@SomebodysNotInBedYet That's a relief lol I was showing quite early even though this is my first.

@NinaMarieP Thank you you're bump has made me feel better lol feel a bit less self conscious about it. Wish people would just keep their opinions to themselves!

Me @ 27 + 4, I am about the size I was last time around and DD1 was only 6lb8. Don't panic about it :)

BridgeFarmKefir · 19/05/2018 20:13

I'm 20 weeks and went to my first pregnancy yoga class today. Various ladies at different stages, and similar stages, with loads of different bumps. One lady was 34 weeks and didn't look much different to me! What I've discovered in pregnancy is that everyone has an opinion, and it's generally unwelcome. Please don't worry yourself Smile

mnahmnah · 19/05/2018 20:16

Bump size really isn’t any correlation. I measured spot on or just under throughout my second pregnancy, people said how neat I was. I delivered on time and he was 10lb 11oz!! As others have said, I have friends who have measured big and had average size babies. Unless your midwife says anything, really pay no attention to anyone else

Foodylicious · 19/05/2018 20:22

Hi
I was HUGE first time.
3.5stone put on in pregnancy but only had a 6lb 15oz baby Shock

aldoushuxleyatemymescaline · 19/05/2018 20:56

People didn't know I was pregnant with my second til I hit 7 months she was 8lb 5oz. People guessed from 14 weeks with my first. She was 6lb 3oz

People just feel a burning need to comment on bump size. It's harmless but infuriating!

TTCI · 19/05/2018 22:05

Aw!! Thank you for showing me your lovely bumps!! I was terrified she was going to be massive lol. I know people mean well but it is infuriating you're right! Someone actually said to me "God you're some f-ing size" 😳

I’m afraid you might need to get used to it and get tough skinned, because it’s astonishing how forthright people can be on anything to do with pregnancy, babies and parenting!

Janem83 · 20/05/2018 09:27

I’m getting the same, 33 weeks and since my 20 weeks scan every time I see my MIL she comments on my bump.
I’ve had - I can tell you’re having a boy because you’re round all over, I don’t think he’ll be measuring small at the growth scan given the size of you, I don’t think you’ll go to 40 weeks looking at the size of you and my favourite, first thing she said when she opened the front door to me one day - wow you’re absolutely massive aren’t you. My oh thinks I’m being sensitive but I’m absolutely sick of it. People say it at work but I’d like to think family would be a bit nicer!!!!
I feel much bigger than dc1 who was 5lbs 4ozs but on my last growth scan he was measuring average.

TTCI · 05/12/2018 22:45

Congratulations on all your babies that were due hope they are all well and thank you for everyone's responses xx

It's funny really! I work In retail and have had so many varied comments from 'oh Yr quite big already' to 'ooo what I neat little bump' I have a close relative who is also pregnant and is a week behind me and family members keep telling me how much bigger she is than me!!! Try not to worry about everyone else, we are all different, just love Yr bump the way it is xxx

Mammyofasuperbaby · 06/12/2018 06:36

Absolutely nothing wrong with your bump at all.
I measured perfectly with my DS right up until his birth at 33 weeks, at that age they are supposed to be around 4/5lbs and my DS was only 2lb 14oz.

TheArtfulScreamer · 06/12/2018 12:42

I'm only a week behind you and I'm about the same size so I don't think either of us have anything to worry about. I think often people comment for the sake of having something to say.

LanaLily11 · 06/12/2018 12:44

Have you been tested for gestational diabetes as constant thirst is one the symptoms?

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 06/12/2018 12:47

Your bump is gorgeous and perfect you look lovely but I would definitely mention your constant thirst to you midwife next time you see her.

TTCI · 06/12/2018 12:58

Oh sorry I have actually had my baby now she is 3 months old and was 8 pounds 1 oz I just hated it that I didn't reply to everyone lol.

@Milligan123 I also work in retail and I really got sick of the "bloomin heck, you're massive!" Comments.

It's weird now I'm not pregnant I actually miss it.
