I’m meant to be 4 weeks pregnant but today I’ve woke up and I’m having what looks like a period I’ve gone to a and e who say I’m showing up a negative test but I’ve gone home and took one and it’s positive what’s happening

Phone either your GP or 111 for advice. Put a pad on and keep an eye on how heavy the bleeding is.

nessa2066 · 18/05/2018 16:31

Even tho I’ve already been up a and e the morning ?

Do you have the emergency number of your midwives or hospital maternity unit?

nessa2066 · 18/05/2018 16:33

Cause I’m only 4 weeks I don’t have one

Unfortunately the hormones in your system might show a positive even after a miscarriage

Kate123cl · 18/05/2018 16:33

I'm so sorry you're going through this Thanks you may be having an early miscarriage. Can I ask what test you're using? FR is meant to be more accurate than some doctors tests and 4 weeks is very early so you may not just be showing as positive on their tests. Bleeding early on is meant to be quite normal x

nessa2066 · 18/05/2018 16:34

So you think it’s a miscarriage?

nessa2066 · 18/05/2018 16:34

I’ve used clear blue x

Try and see if there is an early pregnancy unit at your nearest hospital. Tell them you are very anxious and urgently need a scan

GummyGoddess · 18/05/2018 16:35

Google your EPU number and call them to see what they say.

nessa2066 · 18/05/2018 16:36

They’ve booked me in for a scan but not till Wednesday they say there really busy and sent me home 😭 I’m so gutted I dunno what to think it’s like a full on period but no clots or tissue.

I suffered a miscarriage and was having positive pregnancy tests 2 months later.
The signs are pointing to an early loss, yes.

Girlwiththearabstrap · 18/05/2018 17:28

I'm so sorry this is happening. Unfortunately there's not much A and E can do unless you're losing too much blood or the pain is severe. A scan at 4 weeks wouldn't tell you much either so agonising as it is you're best waiting till Wednesday. Call 111 for advice if you're bleeding through more than a pad an hour.

zaalitje · 18/05/2018 18:15

A scan at 4 weeks would be very unlikely to show anything and at best if something was seen its too early for a heart beat so you'd end up back in 2 weeks so they could check growth.
I know the waiting is horrid, I've been there, but at this stage there's not much else to do.

Pop a pad on, curl up with a hot water bottle and some pain killers and keep an eye on things. And be kind to yourself.

Wildlingofthewest · 18/05/2018 18:21

At this stage, if this is a miscarriage then unfortunately there isn’t anything that can be done to stop it. I’m really sorry. Keep an eye on the bleeding, if it gets too heavy (soaking through a pad within an hour) or you start experienceing severe pain then call the EPU at your local hospital.
Try to get comfy under a blanket/in bed, curl up and just rest. Look after yourself. Don’t do any more tests for now, just see what happens this evening/tomorrow and take it from there.

Justtickingboxes · 19/05/2018 08:43

Usually they can only detect a heart beat at 6 weeks onwards. The wait is truly agonising. I've been there too :( sending many hugs

Liz3891 · 19/05/2018 09:02

Unfortunately I doubt that at 4 weeks you'd see any difference between your period and an early miscarriage. Flow might be a bit heavier than normal, but probably not much different in form (clots etc). I think you'll just have to wait a week or so after it's over and test again :(.

Frosty66612 · 19/05/2018 09:04

Really sorry this is happening to you. I’ve had the same happen to me and I tested positive on certain brands for about 10 days after the bleeding started. Mine was heavy like a period but no clots

dontbesillyhenry · 19/05/2018 09:04

Sounds like a chemical pregnancy. Very sad but probably very common and people wouldn't know unless testing very early
