Hi,

Last week I ate a lamb shank..worried I might’ve actually caught something from it..I think I was picking at it so can’t be sure

Can’t get in touch with my midwife Hmm just looking for reassurance really and wandered if anyone’s eaten pink lamb and been fine

If you'd caught a bug you'd know by now, so I think you can relax! If the lamb was properly cooked on thee outside then the inside being pink is safe, as any bacteria will be on the outside. Minced meat like burgers should be cooked throughout, not pink.

Aren't lamb shanks normally cooked low and slow? Was it actually rare or pink looking as the meat is cooked on the bone?

Lamb shank is basically inedible unless it’s been cooked for a long time - it would be impossibly chewy if served even medium rare. Sometimes the meat closest to the bone can look a touch pink but it doesn’t mean that it’s undercooked.

My other half cooked it..the cooking instructions was 200 degrees in the oven which I’m guessing he would’ve done! Def not rare..just pink-ish in the middle!

That’s just how it looks on the bone. Please don’t worry Smile

If you are worried about toxoplasmosis then as long as the meat is cooked at over 70 degrees you will be ok. I have been worried so for days after similar concern sonhave done lots of reading up!
You can always ask for a test to put your mind at rest, you may be immune already as you can also catch it from unwashed salad and veg
