Why is the embryo not in the gestational sac???

I should have asked the midwife this today but was so relieved to see a heartbeat that I didn’t think.

Why is the embryo outside of the gestational sac at this stage (5-6 weeks)? I though the sac turns into the amniotic sac, so why does the embryo not start in the sac, and at what point does it move into the sac? My photo below is from today. Looks like a diamond ring with the diamond being the baby.

Anyone better informed than me that can explain this??

I think the large dark area is the gestational sac and the smaller ‘bubble’ is the yolk sac.

If you google ‘human yolk sac’ there are scan pics the same as yours indicating the ‘ring’ as the yolk sac.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Yes the diamond contains the embryo and the ring is the yolk sac, I think. Have a look at this link - picture is very similar to yours
