Pigeon nest on balcony

Hi

I'd really appreciate some advice. I'm 30 weeks pregnant tomorrow. We just discovered a pigeon nest with 2 eggs on our balcony. Apparently once these hatch mom lays more and this can go on all year.

It gets really hot in our flat the summer and i would have the balcony door open all day.

So I'm torn between a respect for mothers and life everywhere and a massive fear that having them there would be dangerous for my baby with all the droppings etc. Also would they try to come inside or stop us from going out?!

My oh has offered to get someone to remove them.

Ideally we could wait for these 2 to hatch and fly away but from what I've read as soon as these have hatched mom keeps laying so thats not a possibility.

Any advice ladies? Thanks Smile

had this two years ago. Felt guilty so left the eggs to hatch BIG mistake, they stay forever the baby birds learn to fly on the balcony, shit everywhere and it takes weeks. They come back continuously, I’ve just moved and had to say goodbye to them when I left because they felt like actual flatmates.

Depending on who manages your building pigeons maybe seen as pests so as long as it is done humanely you can remove them.

I personally would get them removed and then put netting or some other barrier to stop another bird nesting again.

I'm normally the first to look after animals but these are pigeons. They are plentiful and they are flying rats. Best thing is to get rid of the nest before they hatch so mum can go and make a new nest elsewhere. More cruel on her to do something after they've hatched and much much harder for you to the keep them away.

Thanks for your advice ladies. It helped cement my decision. My oh's brother is coming over to move it today. We both feel awful but don't see any alternative.
