Disproportionate head on ultrasound anyone?

Hello

Just had my 20 weeks scan today. Everything looks good, but the baby’s head is in the 97th percentile. Leg and abdomen measurements were average.

Does anyone else have experience of this? The sonographer didn’t seem concerned, so I’m not too worried just curious.

Yes, ds1 was a total bobble head as a baby Grin He's 6'1" now and looks in proportion. I did end up with an emergency c-section but not sure how much of that was down to the actual size of his head, vs the fact that he was facing forwards.

Ragusa · 17/05/2018 00:10

Conversely one of my babies was a peahead, as am I. Much lower %ile than would be expected given rest of fetal measurements.

Loom atvyourself and DH: who has he maaive bobblehead gene??😁

FrauNeuer · 17/05/2018 00:23

Ragusa Ha ha, it’s funny because the sonographer said she’d had a look at us to see if either of us had a big head! I blame DH. In fact, any weird genetic stuff/behaviour traits will definitely be DH’s fault! Grin

Mountain that’s really Interesting because DH is 6”3 and everyone is delighting in telling me that I look like I’m going to have a big baby. Maybe little one is going to be just as tall and the rest of the body needs to catch up! The sonographer also said that they’d need to keep an eye on head size as my due date gets nearer ... Shock

I was measured as having a very large head - apparently they were worried I’d have water on the brain. Nope. I’m now 32 and hats still don’t fit me.

Rose2887 · 17/05/2018 09:19

My little girls head was on the 98th centimetres measure 32.5 cms and her body on the 2nd, didn’t seem to think it was an issue but it was hard pushing that head out Grin I’m due again in December so will be interesting!!!

MyNameIsTotoro · 17/05/2018 09:35

Yep same here. I also have a massive head so I presume it's genetic. Look perfectly normal, just can't buy hats.

InDubiousBattle · 17/05/2018 09:42

My ds had a massive head, 90 somethingth centile and a 6th centile body. He had to see a paediatrician at 6 months because his head grew even more still and the first thing she did was look at our Heads. He's 4.5 now and has grown into his big head! Although I do sometimes look back at his baby pictures and think 'bloody hell! He was all head!'. At the time we didn't really think much of it, just thought that everyone else's babies had tiny heads!

NoParticularPattern · 17/05/2018 09:45

I had this but with legs! Average head, below average abdomen, legs measuring 3 weeks ahead. Turns out I was about to give birth to a child of two halves- skinny enough to fit into newborn but long enough to need 3-6! She also has a giant head now. Although considering me and DH are both over 6ft and he’s pretty giant in every way apart from being skinny it probably shouldn’t have been a surprise!!

SingingSands · 17/05/2018 09:47

My brother had a massive head. It really was enormous. He grew into it. He’s still a bighead know it all though! Grin

Mousefunky · 17/05/2018 09:52

My DD was born 99th centile in weight and length and off the centile scale with her head Grin. We had to go see a consultant about the size of her head. She measured mine and exh’s heads and said well it’s clearly just genetic Grin. I wouldn’t worry about it.

Yarnswift · 17/05/2018 09:54

Head currently measuring weeks ahead of the rest of the baby.

Sonographer not worried - dc1 was the same, I have a huge head and so does dh.

I am hoping they will give me a c section though...

ThorsMistress · 18/05/2018 10:53

DS now 6 had a slightly larger than average head, as did my niece who’s now 7. Both have grown into their heads!

Currently pregnant with DC2 and it has a slightly bigger belly!

Thanks for the replies everyone! So, maybe it’s not that strange after all. Smile

I guess I’ll just have to wait and see whether my little bobble head grows into his frame when he’s older. Grin
