I keep thinking about blue veined cheeses, Brie, pate and runny eggs and lovely glasses of cold white white! My husband sits next to me of an evening drinking lovely cold beer and I’m afraid that’s my becks blue just isn’t the same. Don’t get me wrong I’m so excited to be pregnant but when I’m told I can’t have something it does make me want it more! Anyone else?

I am dreaming of brie and camembert!!!

As soon as i give birth i will be requesting a bacon brie and cranberry baguette from DHGrin

Stephisaur · 16/05/2018 18:41

I have never wanted pâté more in my life.

However, the risks to baby’s eyesight are too high, so alas - no pâté for me :(

DH is currently cooking me a steak and I’m in a minor strop because it’s got to be well done :(

Eminybob · 16/05/2018 18:46

Dh and I are going to a French restaurant on Saturday for our anniversary, I have been looking at pictures of the food on trip adviser. There is a lot of banned foods on the menu Sad and it all looks so good.

About a week after I found out I was pregnant I bought a piece of Brie and some pate, completely forgetting I can’t eat them, despite not having bought any in ages! Subconsciously I’d obviously already started missing them!

Naschkatze · 16/05/2018 18:51

Foods being "banned" does make me want them more!

When DS was just under a week old, DH made me the most amazing lunch of all the things I hadn't been able to eat: pate, soft cheeses, cured meats etc. It was incredible! Make sure yours knows to plan a similar for after baby arrives!!

Girlwiththearabstrap · 16/05/2018 18:52

You can eat a lot of the stuff mentioned here!
All cooked cheese and hard cheese is fine so stilton could be a good blue cheese? Or baked camembert. Seafood is fine. Mcflurrys and Mr whippy is fine. Coffee and tea are fine. Runny eggs are fine.

Jamhandprints · 16/05/2018 18:53

Yes, I craved brie for months and now wine. I won't even have it when baby's born cos I don't normally drink. Almost everything makes me feel sick. Every time I smell tea I want it but the taste makes me feel so ill. So I can't wait to actually enjoy a cuppa again.

Bowlofbabelfish · 16/05/2018 18:55

You can have a runny egg if it’s lion marked
You can have tea and coffee, just don’t go wild.
Try erdinger alcohol free weißbier.

I have hg - absolutely zero cravings, only aversions.

brogueish · 16/05/2018 22:05

Stilton is fine! Have eaten most things mentioned here, except I don't drink alcohol or tea anyway.

I've read Expecting Better and have avoided cold cooked turkey meat and soft blue cheeses and that's it. Everything else when fresh and in moderation is fair game.

aetw · 17/05/2018 06:30

This book everyone keeps mentioning sounds interesting. I’m going to check it out.

Rare steak, that’s about the only thing I’m missing. Well, and runny eggs, but mainly because we get eggs from the Farm chickens who aren’t vaccinated, and red lion eggs taste shit in comparison!

JoffreyMonfrere · 17/05/2018 06:50

Not pregnant now... but when I was, I longed for Mr Whippy.

aetw · 17/05/2018 07:06

I never even realised that you couldn’t have Mr Whippy ice cream.

polkadotpixie · 17/05/2018 07:16

I really want a Mr Whippy 😩

I'm vegetarian so no issues with missing steak, pâté or seafood, I hate coffee and runny eggs anyway and I don't drink so I'm fine with no alcohol

I was in France last week though and nearly starved as everything vegetarian had goats cheese...I ate 3 margarita pizzas in 3 days 😂

SoyDora · 17/05/2018 07:19

Goats cheese is fine if cooked (in a tart, on a pizza etc)

Grandmaswagsbag · 17/05/2018 07:24

I’m sure any cheeses available in the main section of supermarkets are fine. I haven’t been avoiding any this time. I love that soft danish blue stuff! Listeria hysteria drove me mad in my 1st pregnancy then I realised you’re far more likely to get it from fruit and salads than anything else, and they don’t tell you to avoid those. But my god I’m missing that cold crisp glass of wine on a Friday night!! And I’m only half way.

pastabest · 17/05/2018 08:29

YOU CAN HAVE MR WHIPPY

From the NHS:

^Ice cream in pregnancy
Soft ice creams should be fine to eat when you're pregnant, as they are processed products made with pasteurised milk and eggs, so any risk of salmonella food poisoning has been eliminated.^

The problem isn't the ice cream itself it's the fact that it's often a dairy product that's being dispensed by a freezer/nozzle of undetermined cleanliness, off a car battery in the middle of a field and therefore the risk of food poisoning is greater.

Much like you maybe would decide to pass on a burger from a dodgy looking burger stand when you were pregnant but probably would eat one from a nice little cafe down the road it's the same with soft serve ice cream. You just have to be choosy about where you eat it from butbthe actual ice cream itself isn't an issue.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 17/05/2018 08:38

I avoided all the banned foods and still had listeria. My baby was born with neonatal meningitis.
Please be fully aware of the risks before eating the banned foods! I know it’s tempting.

Stephisaur · 17/05/2018 08:42

Just to add - my Midwife said Mr Whippy is fine.

The Ice Cream Vans have to be inspected now, same as restaurants, so can't get away with nasty ass machines.

GfordMum101 · 17/05/2018 09:03

I don't drink so that not an issue, but I ate and drank pretty much everything else. I actually had cravings for pate and lettuce sandwiches from the work food trolley, and ate them with that certain joy that only comes from having something that others tell you are prohibited. On the statistical side, you are as likely to be hit by a car, as get complications from eating and drinking items on these lists.

aetw · 17/05/2018 09:24

Well, I’m not keen on being hit by a car either.. that has to be stated! Grin!

Grandmaswagsbag · 17/05/2018 09:26

Notumbongo how terrible, do you know where it came from? I noticed in my (obsessive) research about it last time that many recent outbreaks have been in salad items (U.K.) and fruits (US) and given that these things are eaten raw and often I’m sure unwashed (though not sure washing would really get rid of listeria) I always find it a bit odd that women are told to avoid certain items but not others (salad and fruit) when actually they seem to be the main reoccurring culprits.

Gaelach · 17/05/2018 09:31

Beer, beer and more beer. The alcohol free stuff doesn't cut it.

Grandmaswagsbag · 17/05/2018 09:38

Gaelach i as brewdog nanny state recommended on here and it’s actually pretty good. Much better than the standard alc free largers that are a bit yuck.

PasstheStarmix · 17/05/2018 09:40

Op you’re allowed dippy eggs now as long as they’re lion stamped.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 17/05/2018 09:44

grandma I have no idea where it came from. I stuck to the NHS guidelines and didn’t really eat out at all so totally stumped.
I was really strict with my second pregnancy as a result.
