I keep thinking about blue veined cheeses, Brie, pate and runny eggs and lovely glasses of cold white white! My husband sits next to me of an evening drinking lovely cold beer and I’m afraid that’s my becks blue just isn’t the same. Don’t get me wrong I’m so excited to be pregnant but when I’m told I can’t have something it does make me want it more! Anyone else?

I cant wait for a big lump of pate 😋😋

aetw · 16/05/2018 14:56

I’ve never met anyone that’s had listeria full stop!

The only things I've successfully avoided are fresh oysters and liver pate. The pate hasn't bothered me but I really love oysters and I can't wait to get stuck in when the baby has finally made it out.

pastabest · 16/05/2018 15:06

Yeah I've eaten/drunk everything on your list during both pregnancies except for the paté (and only because I've had food poisoning from it before).

You are allowed to eat and drink whatever you want during pregnancy you are (presumably) an adult woman capable of making informed decisions.

The Emily Oster book 'expecting better' is definitely worth a read.

PerfectlyPosed · 16/05/2018 15:10

I'm fairly relaxed when it comes to what I eat during pregnancy but the one thing I have given up and miss (not that I ever eat an awful lot normally) is pate. My BIL was born very early and unwell and my MIL swears it's because of the pate she ate during pregnancy.

I had no idea you could buy no alcohol G&T. My summer is sorted!

BlueBug45 · 16/05/2018 15:16

I just want pate. I don't know why.

KTD27 · 16/05/2018 15:24

Pâté craving here too. Today in the supermarket I lingered over the different types for about 5 minutes just fantasising about which one I’d have ready for when I’m out of hospital along with a fabulous bottle of red wine and some Brie.

Prawns... I would die for a prawn and a rare steak. 😍 only 15.5 weeks to go

SoyDora · 16/05/2018 15:40

NelleB you can eat prawns during pregnancy.

BumbleNova · 16/05/2018 16:07

@nelleb of course you can eat prawns!

BexleyRae · 16/05/2018 16:20

I have tried the no alcohol g&t from tesco and it just tasted like tonic to me.

RexManning · 16/05/2018 16:36

Prawns are fine.

Rideforthehills · 16/05/2018 16:38

I'm in France where all the best of the 'banned' foods are on every menu.

Ordered a well-done steak last night when I''d normally eat it rare. The chef came out and apologised to me that it would most likely taste awful and said it was painful for him to cook it that way!

I've never been a picky eater in my life so being pregnant is giving me a new sympathy for anyone eating out in France/Spain/Italy who has dietary needs.

It's hard to keep saying no to all the good stuff!

RexManning · 16/05/2018 16:40

Weren’t you screened for toxo antibodies at booking-in, ride? I thought that was routine in France.

Rideforthehills · 16/05/2018 17:02

@RexManning, I don't live in France, just temporarily here for a visit. I have had all of my antenatal care in UK so far but will be seeing a midwife in France for a couple of appointments. It will be interesting to see what I am told differently.
I have decided to stick to NHS guidelines, where ever I am just for ease really, as every country I visit has different advice.

Nothisispatrick · 16/05/2018 17:08

What tea and coffee are people drinking if not proper? Its too much caffeine which is bad, you are allowed some!

MyLittleBeee · 16/05/2018 17:09

Why is Mr Whippy & McFlurrys not allowed?

GinIsIn · 16/05/2018 17:14

You can have most of those things - all cheeses fine if cooked so blue cheese risotto or baked Camembert fine. Prawns are allowed. Coffee fine if only 1 a day. Runny eggs are fine too.

pastabest · 16/05/2018 17:18

Both mr Whippy and McFlurrys (well all soft ice cream in the uk actually) are fine according to the NHS.

I think the notion that they aren't comes from when soft ice cream was made from raw egg and raw egg wasn't safe. Neither is the case now for commercial soft ice cream

iklboo · 16/05/2018 17:26

After I'd had DS, DH brought me pate, Brie and a small bottle of fizz with crackers, crusty roll. Heaven.

Fluffybat · 16/05/2018 17:57

Beer! But Budweiser now do a good non-alcoholic one. Way better than Beck Blue

gg5891 · 16/05/2018 17:58

Now I've seen this thread I want pate! Oh man! I haven't rated prawns either but it's a personal choice because I've had really bad food poisoning from prawns before so made the decision to avoid them. I want a really rare steak when this little one appears! Or maybe a beef wellington so I've got pate and beef all in one!!

Pebblespony · 16/05/2018 18:01

The Mr whippey thing is in case the machine hasn't been cleaned properly. Not to do with the actual ingredients.

blacklister · 16/05/2018 18:07

I want pâté, followed by rare steak, followed by a boozy tiramisu, followed by cheese and biscuits... all washed down with a lovely cold glass of dry white wine. I am so having that as soon as I get out of hospital!

Only 3.5 months to go....

BiscayTrafalgarFitzroy · 16/05/2018 18:16

There's a lot of misconceptions about what you can't eat on this thread!

Runny eggs are absolutely fine as long as they have the red lion mark.

Seafood including prawns is fine as long as it is cooked and how often do you eat raw prawns anyway?

Camembert is fine if cooked though in the oven and even if not, no one has had a cheese induced case of listeria in the UK for over 20 years!

What's the point denying yourself something for no point!?
