Urine infection - 3weeks later

Just wanted some advice really
Gave a urine sample on 29th April on my booking in appointment with the midwife & they also took some bloods which they said they would email me the results. However they haven't sent no results and I asked about my results last week and was told No News Is Good News! He said they only write to you if something was wrong!

Today out of the blue received a call from a midwife to say the urinw sample I gave on the 29th April shows I've got urine infection! Why are they telling me this more than 2 weeks later! Surely I should have been informed earlier so it could have been treated? They've now given me Amoxicillin today to take for 7days!

Should I take this up with them? Could the infection have just gone itself as it's been so long?

Sometimes urine samples can take a while. They essentially find any bugs in the sample then grow it and examine it to see which antibiotics will treat that bacteria. It's not completely unfeasible that it has taken this long. Especially if you give them a day or so to get the sample to the lab, then a day or so at the end to get the results back to the midwives and into a pile of other results to call people about. I would ask at your next appointment why it took so long just for your peace of mind but it's done you no harm so I wouldn't worry.
