Lack of weight gain...is it normal?

Hi,

I am 14 weeks and so far have not put on any weight. No real noticeable bump just bloating still. 12 week scan was fine, I guess I just really thought I would have started gaining by this point. Got myself all worried that the baby might not be growing! Is this normal? I have no idea! It is my first pregnancy. I did have some morning sickness but mostly first thing before I ate so it wasn't like I was throwing up meals. When did you all start to put on weight?

I never, both pregnancies I've lost 7lbs.
Had morning sickness in both until around 20 weeks and then very healthy, happy pregnancies but just never gained weight 🤷🏻‍♀️

I wouldn't worry, and congratulations ☺️

I didn't put on any weight or have a noticable bump until 20ish weeks in my first pregnancy. Don't worry, it's all normal and fine. Maternity clothes are largely awful so make the most of it!

I'm 11 weeks and have lost 3 pounds since finding out. I've not been sick bit have had nausea which is limiting what I eat. However to combat it I've been eating junk food so thought I would have put on a load! I asked the midwife at my bookong in appointment what was normal and she just said everyone is different don't worry!

Lost 8lbs first trimester and didn't regain it until 26 weeks

I’m 23 +2, was only sick once, but did have nausea. I’ve only put on 3lbs so far.

I lost weight in 1st and 2nd trimester, and I put on 11ibs in 3rd trimester, putting me to 5ibs heavier than where I started. This was despite not really moving much due to SPD, eating whatever I wanted (including strudel for dinner) and haribo cravings! I was also extremely lucky and had absolutely no morning sickness at any point, so that wasn't the cause. Baby was born healthy at 6.11ibs. I then lost a stone and half whilst breastfeeding! Normally I struggle to lose any weight lol. Everyone's different, try not to worry Smile

Thank you so much for the reassurance. It just shows how little I knew about pregnancy beforehand! I expected to have gained a lot already. But it seems fairly normal not to Smile

I was carrying twins and although I didn't throw up I felt nauseous for the first few months, I lost weight. I was very worried and spoke to my consultant, she said that dc were parasites who would strip my body of what they needed and that there was no advantage to getting fat. I did put on weight as time went by and gave birth to two healthy weight babies. Don't worry.

didsomeonesaybunny · 16/05/2018 03:14

Try not to worry OP, I think everyone is different. I’m 21 weeks and have only gained 3 pounds!

Astrid2 · 16/05/2018 03:37

I didn't put any weight on until after 30 weeks and even then it was only 5kg. Your body will give everything to the baby and use what supplies you gave. Everyone is different.

SecretStash · 16/05/2018 07:17

I gain zero weight until 20 weeks, despite the prominent bump!
I very much make up for it in the last 20 weeks....

Fia256 · 16/05/2018 07:37

Definitely don't worry! I'm 24 weeks and still 2lbs less than I was pre pregnancy! Suffered badly with sickness and IBS has flared up since being pregnant so I never seem to be able to get on top of the weight gain! I have a good sized bump now though so not concerned Smile

Hopehope20 · 17/05/2018 21:00

Thank you so much! Feel much better now!

I was having the same worries, as I lost a stone in the earlier months and now (25w+2) am still over 8lb less than the day I found out I was expecting. I brought it up to my midwife this afternoon as I thought baby might not be growing (I have a bump now and he/she is moving about almost constantly, but the weight is staying put). She said it isn’t unusual at all and although it is expected that I’ll gain some more weight later on, baba is currently exactly as expected at this stage and she’s happy with my bump.

I can relax a bit now .
