Sonographer was hesitant

Hi All, I have just been for my anomaly scan and the guy doing it was a bit hesitant when looking at the heart. He seemed to take a while when looking and started asking me who my Dr was and when I was next due to seem them. I'm in Australia so the process is a bit different here, I don't have a midwife just yet. I might be paranoid, he may have just been making small talk but did anyone else have someone focus on the heart for quite a while? Thanks

When I had mine for my dd they couldn’t get a decent look and couldn’t be sure all was well. I was asked to go back a week later and she was bigger and in a better position so I got the all clear. I don’t think they would have just left it if anything was wrong. Hope all is ok.

Yes, we had a similar experience but our sonographer told us at the start that she may go quiet and have to concentrate on specific things, and this shouldn’t worry us. If there was anything wrong, they are duty bound to refer you on. Did he say anything at the end? Do you have your report? Honestly, just sounds like small talk to me.

They took absolutely ages to do the heart when I had mine. They said it was difficult to get the views they needed due to babies position. They seemed to get there in the end though and told me that everything was fine.
If you are worried I would give them a call but it's quite an important scan so he probably just wanted to take his time and do it properly.

The heart can be a tricky one. In fact I had to go back a week later for then to finish checking it because she'd got herself into a position where there was a shadow covering what they needed to look at. I think sometimes people forget they are doing something that requires concentration and focus, so they do go quiet every so often. I'm sure everything is fine OP :) and congratulations on your pregnancy.

Would totally agree with the above. We had to go for 2 walks around the hospital to try and move baby/have a break and then try scanning our baby's heart again. The chambers and blood vessels they are looking at are tiny, and getting the correct view with a moving target can be really hard. I'm sure they would had said if there was any doubt all was fine. Probably making small talk about your Dr to try and put you at ease if it was taking a while.

Yes, the sonography took ages over the hearts of my two. They need to get a really good look at it and that takes time and concentration. You would have been told if anything didn’t look ok.
