PAPP-A RESULTS

Hi, I was wondering if you could help. I had a letter to come into the hospital as my blood results have come back as low PAPP- results when I had the tests to see if the baby has downs etc. Does this mean my baby could have downs? The letter just said that the placenta may not be producing enough blood and that the baby may be small or I could suffer from blood pressure issues or pre-eclampsia. Online however says that there is a link to downs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had low PAPP-A. Please don't worry (and deffo don't Google!!) It just means your baby might be slightly small but you'll have extra scans to monitor his/her growth. It's really not a problem at all and I saw it as a chance to see my lovely baby more often.

My baby is now 3 weeks old and perfect!! Born 7lbs exactly.

Congrats on your pregnancy!!

Oh just to add, I had to take an aspirin a day to help with any blood flow issues but PAPP-A isnt anything to do with a higher risk of downs, it's just tested at the same time. They'll check you regularly for pre eclamcia anyway but also keep an eye on any headaches and let your MW know. They check by testimonies blood pressure and urine so it's really quick and easy to rule out

Thank you so much. If it was for downs would it say in the letter? My letter just said that the baby could be small etc but online says it's all linked to downs. I have an app tomorrow but starting to worry now and get a bit upset x

Thank you so much, it did say in the letter that they may prescribe aspirin. I've had headaches all weekend but I was not sure if it was the stress of waiting for the appointment. I've tried not to stress but I think I have been x

If there was a high risk of Down's it would say in your letter and you would have been invited in for diagnostic tests. Low papp-a is only associated with Down's if other factors are also met which obviously is not the case for you so don't panic :) x

Thank you so much for letting me know. That will teach me to look on google. We tried so long to get pregnant and had to use fertility treatment as I suffer from endo and PCOS. Was a miracle it finally worked as I was allergic to the treatment. It's been a hard pregnancy, hormones were all over the place at the beginning and now I suffer from morning sickness which meant I had to go on anti sickness meds as it got so bad. Now I received the letter, could not help but think the worse. Thank you all so much for all your help. I feel better if the letter would state downs risk or mention the other treatment. The letter said that the placenta could not be functioning and that I could be at risk for blood pressure issues or pre-eclampsia. It also mentioned that i may need to take aspirin and more scans may be needed. Thank you so much x

I had this too and got myself all worked up but feeling better as the time goes on. I am low risk for downs but also low papp a. They said the same as other ladies have said here...just that I will be monitored later on in pregnancy to check the growth as it could result in placenta issues...but they also said it might mean nothing at all. Try not to worry

I have just received low papp-A results today too. I spent the 2 previous pregnancies under consultant care due to high bp/pre eclampsia which they found interesting as apparently its linked to that. I have an appointment in about 4 weeks to discuss results and action plan but said it was likely i would have fortnightly scans from 30 weeks. Google is shit though talks about prem babies and stillborns which is not something you want to be reading about!

Thank you all so much for all your help. I had the hospital appointment yesterday and my results come back more positive. I am low on PAPP-A so they said I would be monitors more frequently. I got my test results through the post today to advise that my downs results etc were negative but all tests can never be 100% so there could be a chance, wish I got that letter at the same time as the other appointment, was so upset and worried.

Thank you all again, your comments really helped me a lot xx
