Twins after coil?

Hi all,

I’m fairly new to posting and I’m hoping for some advice.

7 weeks ago my mirena coil fell out after 14 months, we decided to just see what happens and if it was meant to be it was meant to be. I bled early April and have just found out I am pregnant, so from the bleed I’d be about 5 weeks Grin

We are jncredibly excited and have told 2 close family members, one of who said “I’ll bet it’s twins”. I then decided to google (bad idea I know) and kept seeing post about conceiving twins quickly after coil removal, although these are all dates 2010/11. I was wondering if this is something still happening often?

Anyone who could share stories/advice I would be truly grateful!

X

Something like this could only ever increase the risk of non-identical twins, ie the hormonal change causing the body to release two eggs. That happens to large numbers of women anyway though, so could just be the usual proportion.

Why did your relative say she bet it was twins? As a twin Mum I hear this sort of thing often and haven’t known anyone to be right yet!

Relative said because they have heard stories of after the coil many conceiving fraternal twins due to the sudden change of hormone. We have twins in my side of the family but not in mine or my mums generation.

I think I’m just a bit nervous as my pregnancy symptoms are a lot stronger this time already compared to my previous pregnancies.

We would be happy either way, we’d just need to add a new car to the list of items we need to buy 😉
