Bilateral High arterial resistance and notching in the uterine arteries

23 weeks and this was picked up last week. I've been put on fortnightly scans but I'm not sure of the implications of these findings if there are any

Can anyone help?

Do you have an antenatal clinic appointment to discuss it?

I had mine checked as part of a trial. At my 12 week scan I had bilateral notches and high resistance in one artery. At my 20 week scan there was a notch in one and high resistance in both. When I saw the Dr he explained that they are not 100% sure of the significance, but they would consider me at higher risk of pre-eclampsia, poor placental development and the baby not growing properly. So far I am booked for growth scans at 28, 32 and 36 weeks. If there's any concern at any of them they will be more frequent and if the baby stops growing they would deliver.

So lots of scary stuff, but equally he said I could have no problems at all.

I hope that helps and hasn't just terrified you.

Hi thanks for responding.

I'm under the fetal medicine clinic now so all the scans will be consultant led. I'll ask more at the next one in a couple of weeks. It all sounded so serious in what is already a high anxiety pregnancy

It is rubbish isn't it. I'm nearly 26 weeks. This is the furthest I've ever got after 4 early miscarriages and although I knew I was never going to relax I could have done without the extra anxieties. I just try and remind myself that it may not amount to anything and if it does the extra scans mean any problems will be identified early.

If it helps my sister had severe pre-eclampsia with her first. She was closely monitored with her next 2 and had a notch picked up with her third. He was born at full term weighing 8lbs something.

You have a similar history to me - I've had 5 early losses.

Wishing you a safe and healthy pregnancy

You too. Fingers crossed for chubby full term babies for us both.
