Movements at 20 weeks - normal?

Hi ladies,

First pregnancy so I’d be really grateful for some advice from those who know more about this stuff that me!

I’m 20 weeks and last weekend started feeling lots of movement. Since Friday I feel as though these movements have been less frequent and maybe even a little more gentle.

Is this normal? I’ve tried to find some information online but every seems to relate to 24 weeks onwards.

Would you bother a midwife with this or am I worrying unnecessarily?

I’ve really struggled with my anxiety during this pregnancy, so I’m constantly worrying about everything that could go wrong. Sad

The baby is still very small, it's probably just moved into a different position. The advice here is to start monitoring movement from 28 weeks.

@oysterbabe thanks for your reply - that’s reassuring to hear. So you wouldn’t make a phonecall to the midwife at this point?

I first started feeling a tickling sensation at 18 weeks, so not abnormal at all. Entirely normal.

Where I live movements are to monitored from 28 weeks.
I panicked endlessly at 20 weeks because movements were so sporadic, baby didn’t really settle into a pattern until 33 weeks.
In hindsight, I wish I hadn’t have worried as much because I know appreciate how small baby was.

Thanks guys. Good to know I’m not the only one who’s in a permanent panic. I really thought that I would start to relax a little by now but I’m getting worse. Confused

I was the same. Might be a coincidence but when DD movements changed to what is say was less noticeable she had actually flipped over and became breech. (Shes been this way for 4 weeks now) my movements aren't as I remember with my others and generally only occur once I'm settled for the night.

At my hospital they did monitor me from 25 weeks as I felt nothing at all in 30hours and they say by 26 weeks they will monitor with a trace if your concerned though I'd just give your maternity triage a call. They can advise you. Xx

I'm also 20 weeks and have seen no pattern yet... it seems completely random when he/she will kick! I only really notice when I'm at home relaxing in the evenings anyway as at work I'm rushing around and too busy to really pay attention to kicks. But I do have quiet days as far as I know. I wouldn't worry yet - we are still quite early for patterns of movement and it is quite small.:)

Yeah I’ve been the same - the movements have been really noticeable on an evening. I guess maybe he has found some other place to hang out that I can’t quite feel yet!

I was so excited when I felt strong kicks and just thought they’d continue. Confused

Thanks for the reassurance - I just wish he’d give me a nudge to let me know that everything’s okay!
