Anyone else leaked - not waters but no idea what it is...

I am 18+4 weeks pregnant and on Wednesday morning I woke with very damp knickers. The fluid was clear and watery. I called the maternity unit and they asked me to come in. An internal check was performed and that seemed fine and the scan revealed no concerns either. I was allowed to go home but as I was waiting for my cab I became very unwell. I have a bacterial infection and was admitted to hospital for two days. This is irrelveant to my leak but whilst I was in hospital they offered me another scan just to check over and again baby looked fine as did the fluid levels. That night - 36hrs after my first leak - I leaked again. The midwife was a bit unsure and a doctor came within 5 minutes and performed an internal check. No signs of it being my waters at all. Cervix appeared fine. I had a scan the following morning to once again check the volume of fluid and it hadn't changed. I was discharged yesterday feeling uncertain but still happy.

Well tonight it happened again. I called the unit and they said to once again go in for a check as that is all they can suggest. I can't go in atm as I have my toddler daughters on my own for most of the night so unless anything else happens that doesn't seem right I will go in tomorrow. They seemed okay with this.

Part of me feels like this is going to be part of my pregnancy and I can accept that but it's the unknowing I hate. If it wasn't my waters before why would it suddenly be?

Has anyone had similar leaking?

Oh and it is not urine! Smile

Just to add since I've had this I've not really had much discharge which makes me wonder if this is actually discharge..

Don't have any experience of what you're describing but could you wear a pad or something from now on and if it happens again you can take that to the doctors with you and they can test the fluid to find out what it is?

overduemamma · 12/05/2018 22:27

When I was pregnant I used to leak all the time,
Little bits. Mine was urine but because it was little leaks it never really smealt or had that yellow tinge to it, as pp said I'd maybe try wearing a
Thin pad and go from there x

AntiHop · 12/05/2018 22:28

How do you know it's not urine?

whatisthisimleaking · 12/05/2018 22:46

Yes I will take my pad with me tomorrow. Does it not have to be soaked to test? By the time I arrive tomorrow it may have dried.. will take it anyway. I took my underwear with me the first time it happened but I'm guessing they couldn't test on that?

anti because I have been awake when it's happened and I can feel it trickling from my vagina and not my urethra

I had watery discharge around 14- 16 weeks. No idea why.

If you put the pad in a sandwich bag and seal it it should stay wet enough to test

Kellie137 · 13/05/2018 00:10

Exactly the same happened to me from about 16 weeks. I was convinced ir was my waters but it turned out to be watery discharge. Midwives told me some women just have to wear a pad throughout pregnancy so I did every day and night until I had my son. I’m sure that’ll be all it is seeing as you’ve had all the checks x

ellesbellesxxx · 13/05/2018 06:31

I went in to Maternity triage thinking it was my waters but they said it was a very watery discharge

ferntwist · 13/05/2018 07:14

I’ve had loads of discharge ever since the second trimester. Not quite as much as you but not too dissimilar. I hope all is well and the checks have put your mind at rest. I’m 33 + 2 now and no problems.

BrutusMcDogface · 13/05/2018 07:20

Sounds like discharge to me, too.

Belliniteeny · 13/05/2018 07:24

Amniosense are pads that change colour on detection of amniotic fluid.

SummerRayne17 · 13/05/2018 07:26

You can have increased discharge during pregnancy as a matter of course but do ask to be tested for Bacterial Vaginosis as that causes a watery discharge too. I had it during pregnancy without realising it and had to take antibiotics to clear it up.

SammySays · 13/05/2018 07:31

Could it be your back waters? When I was pregnant I was told there are 2 sets of water, the front and the back. My back waters went at the start of labour and contractions started about 2 hours later. The midwife put it down to discharge at first but then when my contractions started she realised it was my ‘back waters’ as my front were still in tact. Maybe look into that?

LaBelleSausage · 13/05/2018 07:39

They aren’t cheap, but you could get something like this for peace of mind and out one on when you feel a trickle.

I have no idea how well they work as I never needed to use them but they must be easier than having to go in each time.

Congratulations on your pregnancy and good luck

That'll be our good friend, Mr Discharge. Common to get loads of watery discharge in your 2nd trimester, you've probably just had it/noticed more than most.

I understand your worry, though. I'd have felt the same.

All the best Smile

Icklepickle101 · 13/05/2018 07:52

I’ve had very watery discharge from mid pregnancy, have thought it was my waters a few times!

Gierg · 13/05/2018 07:54

If the docs aren't worried and you've been checked/had scans then it's pretty much guaranteed discharge. I had ridiculous discharge during pregnancy too and was worried lots about it being waters, but nope just watery discharge...

I would see if you can get checked for Bacterial vaginosis though cos that Can also makes watery discharge.

whatisthisimleaking · 13/05/2018 12:24

Thanks everyone.

MW has just checked baby's heartbeat and that seems good. I'm just waiting for the doctor.

I did take my pad but she said there is nothing she can use to test it. That they used to have these strips but they were unreliable as they're only 60% accurate.

She did say that every time it happens I'll have to go to the hospital to get checked over. So now I feel like I'm going to be here everyday which is going to be so hard as I've got two young toddlers. I really hope the fluid leaking stops.

I've ordered those pads that a couple if you suggested so thank you.

And I mentioned the bacterial vaginosis and she said it would have been picked up when I had lots of tests done the other day.

I was going to suggest those pads as well, to detect amino.

I think it’s watery discharge as well. Concerning for you though!
